Anyone currently in Yeongju? Wonderin about the banks...what type of banks they got there? Are there any specific ones you would recommend? Need them for monthly money transfers.
I hope there's one where the teller speaks English...used a bank before where no one spoke English and each trip there was an adventure...wouldn't want to repeat that...

I know Yeongju and the whole province of Gyeongbuk is more conservative than the rest of Korea...wonderin how i would fit in there...i'm a non-white dude in his early 30s

I left there after 4 years in 2005 and still have in-laws there. Youngju has a healthy foreigner community and is a replica of any other town in Korea with all of the regular banks, phone stores, retail outlets, and department stores. Youngju has excellent restaurants and bars, but you will not find Bennigans, TGIFridays, McDonalds, etc. (who needs them anyway?). The only thing Youngju doesn't have is a KTX connection. Youngju is central to almost anywhere in Korea and is great if you love history and the outdoors. At the same time, it isn't too small with a population of over 160,000.

I wouldn't worry about being over 30 and "non-white"; you won't be the first foreigner to arrive in Youngju by that description. I have known Youngju to be accepting of Gyopos, Black people, East Indians, 3M workers of different varieties, flaming gay people, eccentric bi-sexual people, fat people, retirees, divorcees, alcoholics, meat-heads, tatooed pierced, and "alternative" people, hot and ugly people, and crazy people.

Which school will you be working at?
