I highly suggest people try baking their own bread... if of course, you have an oven. A simple convection does the job (you can buy them at Emart for 250,000 for a DeLonghi which is all ya need).
It was my first time baking bread, and I followed some videos made by peeps on Youtube (just type in how to bake bread and you get a zillion results)... and added my own touches, such as adding olive oil, along with manuka honey... and instead of three cups of bread flour I used two cups of bread flour plus one of whole wheat flour. You can purchase this type of flour at almost any Emart, but if your Emart sucks, there is always Hannam mart.
Anyways, just gotta say. I'm very pleased with myself right now, and happy I don't have to survive on the crap they sell at Tous Les Jours!
Bake your own bread people! It's so easy! |

Cheers! You know how to break bread. You da' man. Using less white flour and more wholesome ingredients like whole wheat flour, honey, raisins, and nuts makes super duper good bread. I'd like a hot air blowing convention unit about the size of my 2 burner range to put the range on top in my space challenged 4 foot wide kitchen. |

If you haven't already tried this, sorry for the redundancy:
Try pouring a cup of water into a shallow dish that is also in the oven and closing the door very quickly. The steam makes a very nice crust. |

Yeah, it's interesting. You don't even need to follow the instructions exactly... for example, I just made great bread, and I deviated considerably from the directions.
I didn't knead the bread at all before letting it rise. After the rising, which only took 30-40 mins, I tried kneading it because I read on another site you had to knead it before letting it rise (which the other instructions didn't mention). So I figured, why not knead it now? So I did that for a mere 4-5 minutes because it was too sticky... and then just gave up, threw it in a bowl with a little flour, let it roll around until I got it into a ball shape, then stuck it on a pan and threw it in the oven at 175C for 40 minutes, hoping and praying that it would turn out OK. And it did!
Yeah, I'm still amazed at how easy it is, and how the hell bakeries like Tous Le Jour and Paris Baguette can possibly get it so wrong! My first time baking bread, and it was millions of times better than any of the bread they got there... hmmph. Interesting. |

Just roll the bread flat and very thin. Turn on stove top burner to max. Put the thin dough onto a metal grate-type object, found at any kitchen store for $5, and move it around until cooked. flip and repeat. You just made naan. |

You can accomplish the steam thing by spraying with a spray bottle right after you put the dough in the oven. Just give it a few quick sprays, close the door, and done.
Steam injection is how real artisan bakeries form that crispy crust on their bread loaves. |

I agree, that show is awesome. Really picks up in season two.
Oops, sorry, thought this was the "Breaking Bad" thread. |

Arrgggghhh! How much is that stuff over there?
Baking bread seems like a top thing to do. Most supermarket stuff is full of crap (white flour, sugar, E numbers etc.). |
