Love the original British The Office. Hate my country's remake. The original is intelligent. The remake makes Americans look stupid by comparison. It is really a show about high school dynamics set in an office with older people. I doesn't make me laugh. It makes me want to slap the characters and say "grow up." It makes me want to slap the producers and say "stop dumbing things down for Americans."

Can you clarify this? Here is summary of the first two eps of UK Office:
A worker pits another worker's stapler in a "jelly." He gets upset. A worker builds a little wall using files to block his coworker from view. A worker calls another worker many times on his cell just to say the word "kahk" The boss thinks he is funny and fiddles with his tie nonstop. A worker circulates a retouched porn photo with the boss's face photoshopped in. The guys in the warehouse watch a video of two workers' dogs having sex.

Now, tell me again about how intelligent the show is and how you wish to tell the characters in the US version to "grow up."

I think he is trying to point out that he thinks the British version is subtle, whereas you are pointing pretty much anything that isn't subtle. Is it really possible to render subtleness in Tv shows on an internet board?

Or rather, what's the point in arguing about taste?

The guy prefers the British version because presumably he sees somethin g in it you don't. You don't see it, or indeed perhaps it isn't there. What's the point in this "ra-ra-ra stapler in jelly isn't intelligent" nonesene.

ra-ra-ra? And a stapler in jelly happened in both versions. Which just makes the question as to why one version is more intelligent than the other all the more valid.

Well all the came up on the monitor of my PC was "ra-ra-ra stapler in jelly". Well, if there is a stapler in jelly in both versions, then that leads me to suspect that the guy who prefers the one version over the other sees the difference in the intelligence of the comedy in other aspects.

Secondly, I like both versions and simply watch and them enjoy them for what they are without having to descend into nationalistic willy-waving like "oh oh, British comedy is soooo much more intelligent than American comedy" or "American comedy is so funny, the funniest, best, and most diverse in the entire world, nay, the universe".

The point I'm driving at is an extremely old one- "There is no point arguing about taste". That was the bone I was picking. The one guy says he thinks the British version is more intelligent, so be it. The other fellow doesn't agree, that's fine too. I just didn't see the need for him to grossly reduce/simplify a couple of episodes in what seemed like quite a snarky tone in order to to make an unproveable point.

I dislike that sort of thing as well and I never made any generalizations about British or American comedy. I also never stated that one version of The Office was better than the other.

But back to the main topic. My first year in Korea, we all still got AFKN. I had a break from school and my apartment was right next door, so I would go home during break and relax in front of the tube. There was a show called "Sea Quest" on at that time. (Come to think of it, it may have been on Star TV rather than AFKN). Anyway that show was pretty bad, but far from the worst...except for this one episode I never forgot because I laughed so hard at the end. In fact, I downloaded it a few months backs just to relive the moment. Season 1, ep. 9 "The Regulator." Most ridiculous episode of any show I've ever seen.

That's the talking dolphin one, right? If I remember correctly, it rated pretty high, despite having a grave yard time slot. In NZ, it used to play at 8.30 on a Friday followed by Renegade with Lorenzo Lamas. Good times.

Yup, and "Darwin" delivered the killer line near the end of that episode that I'll always remember.

I just downloaded the episode and watched the last 8 minutes.

EDIT: I did find it on youtube. Skip to the 6:30 mark of this one and watch to the end of the clip:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbCZDlF97mw
Then, watch the finale here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAW82Yo8yTA

I've seen some clips of the US remake of 'Spaced', and I felt like crying.

It's like watching someone you love being beaten to death with the bloody stump of their own leg.
