I'd like to buy something before I head over. I'm taking lessons, but it would be nice to have something readily accessible. I'd like it to include a large inventory of words but it would be great if it also had an audio pronunciation feature. What other features should I be looking for? Are there any good options at an affordable price? (I'm aiming for under $250). Thanks all.

Come ahhhhn! 20 odd people looked at this and no one responded? Evidently in my research, I have found that Korean companies' translation devices are far more sophisticated than anything made elsewhere. The problem therein, I worry is if it is difficult to interface with for English speakers and (very) beginner Korean speakers. The Nurian company's stuff in particular looks amazing. Just hoping I can get a hang of it. Thanks again, tech forum.

Well there are a few problems with English-Korean Dictionary/Translators.

I'll save you the trouble because I spent many many hours doing my research and this is what I found out. There are no dedicated English-Korean dictionaries made by US companies. There just isn't nearly enough demand to warrant producing one.
The only options you have are units manufactured by Korean or Japanese companies. The issue there is that they are made more to be Korean-English Dictionary/Translators and NOT English-Korean. The English to Korean functionality always seems to be an afterthought since native Koreans are the biggest purchasers of these products. That said, there are even very few models that have an English language option. One of the few that I found was the Sharp RD-CM1 which I bought and had shipped via GMarket because it was actually a good deal cheaper than buying it in the US (it also came with a lot of fun gifts via GMarket).
The unit is nice and useful at times, but it really is lacking in the whole English to Korean aspect. If you can read Hangul then you'll have no issues with this unit, but if you're a phonetic speaker and don't know the alphabet I'd almost suggest sticking with a paper book that is tailored for English speakers. No electronic device currently available will be able to replace a good paper dictionary sadly.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.
