So~

I am in the market for some awesome Korean skin care products. I am 25 so I believe (limited research) all I need is a good moisturizer? But I wouldn't mind going in for a whole set of fancy stuff~

I'm just unsure which brand to use. They all look sparkly and pretty to me so I'm lost! Have you ever purchased any in Korea? Which brand would you recommend, or which set or which whatever? Hehe

I swear by clinique, but skin food has good stuff too, in terms of masques and the like. Any of the domestic makeup brands are great for color cosmetics though.

I really liked that 2 step moisturizing stuff that they had at the sauna that I went to, but I couldn't find it in the stores...didn't really know what to look for though. It made my skin really soft and I'm going to look for it at the first opportunity...my new job starts May 31st!!!

I'm a guy but I've bought a crapload of skin care products for gf's, relatives, and the like. Being dragged to the department store by a K-gf is horrifying, but at least I learned a few things.

You should rotate your skin care products. For example, if you used Clinique then after that you should a different brand like Biotherm, SK2, etc... Apparently that way your skin won't get "used" to a particular product and have it be ineffective. I'm not sure if that is true or not, but one girl that told me that had perfect skin.

OP, why not go to LUSH and get a jar of "Gorgeous". I've known quite a few girls that swear by the stuff. I think SK2 is the most popular skincare product amongst young Korean women.

Skin Food makes an amazing Caviar, Gold, and Collagen serum that I put on every morning and night.

On the rare occasions that I do wear make-up, I stick to Bobbi Brown tinted balm instead of foundation, which you can get at any good department store. It's pretty sheer, but is great for moisturizing, and has just a teeny bit of color.

It's a company that has great soaps and products, and (not sure about in Korea--they did in the US) they make fresh masks out of produce.
I love the solid shampoos. They're great when you go to the jimjilbang or travel and want to pack light.

I'm no expert but I do know a thing or two about skincare. Here's my take on Korean vs Western skincare, from the highest to lowest.

1. SK II is considered top of the line in Korea (it's a Japanese product) This is comparable to La Mer, La Prairie, Guerlain, etc. All these lines are very expensive. A 50 ml bottle of moisturizer can run from 300-400 US.

2. Iopie is less expensive from the 1st list. This is comparable to Shiseido, Lancome, etc.

3. Laneige, Mammonde.

4. Skinfood, Faceshop, etc. I think these are what we say drugstore brands.

Personally, I have tried Guerlain, Shiseido and Lancome. I like Guerlain best. Sorry, I haven't tried SK II yet, but I have tried Laneige, it's just OK.

I heard that the Boryeong Mud Cosmetics is pretty good. Not sure if the locals were just hyping it up but I bought my mom a Mud Rang mini-set and myself the mud soap.

Not too sure if mud soap makes sense but I'll give it a try. I like to keep my face clean to reduce the chances of getting razor bumps after shaving.

Lush is fantastic! I highly recommend the Angels on Bare Skin face wash especially for the hot & humid months. I've been using it 1-2 times a day for a few years now and my skin has never been better. If you have sensitive skin at all, their stuff is great because so much of it is organic.
