I want to grab a 24-70 2.8 for nikon TONIGHT. I"d even go with sigma lens...I've heard Yongsan and Namdaemun. But any specific shops where I won't get mauled and might have good prices?
I'm in a bit of a time crunch and I need the new lens for tomorrow morning so can only go tonight after work.
thanks for the direction! |

I would say Yongsan, It is an electronic mall with a lot of different competitors on each floor trying to get you to buy stuff from their section. On the first floor walk just a little ways off the beaten path and you may find a few good deals. Get each shop guy to compete with the one next to it. Could make for some good deals cuz they each sell the same things. |

IF you go to I'Park (the mall above the station) you will pay a premium price for the lens. Caveat emptor. IF you know the value of the lens they can be bargained down to the real market price.
Namdaemun (city hall at your back, gate in front) you will see 3 or 4 shops on the left side of the gate. Again, you can get decent pricing but nothing special in terms of a bargain.
Fast never equals cheap. Cheap is never fast.

Go to Yongsan, but don't stay in IPark mall, go to one of the smaller malls on the other side of the tracks (literally), Najin (sp?) or Etland. Then just shop around until you find a couple of shops that have what you want, then ask each of them the price sigh and walk away from each after they tell you the price then go back to the one with the best price, maybe you can haggle them down a bit. |

I would say go to TechnoMart. It is across the road from GangByeon Station (강변). It's on the green line just beyond COEX mall in the south-east of Seoul. They have MANY lens shops and they don't hassle you like they do at Yongsan.
Go to the 3rd (or 4th) floor and there are another 2 levels above it FILLED with lenses. Some decent prices too.
BUT be warned! ! ! ! Some things are more expensive there. I can't tell you what, but I will give you an example. I bought a DSLR camera there with a friend who also bought one. She wanted to buy a lens immediately, while I decided to wait. We bought the two cameras for a GOOD price, but her lens was about 80-100 000 more expensive than the same lens in the Canon shop in Gangnam. Just a warning. Do a LITTLE research today before you go and visit a few stalls before buying.
Good luck. |

I'm totally through with Yongsan and camera equipment. The best deal I ever got was at a Pixdix, where they gave me a discount without me even asking, while at Yongsan they wanted to charge me much more than market price.
Yongsan totally blows. |

Pixdix has many locations, and is the same store as the Canon stores, only with a different name. I've seen Pixdix in the Coex Mall, Canon stores in the Sinchon rotary, and - hell - just about at every big department store I've been to. |
