10. Goes to college with no career plans in sight and racks up a lot of debt.

9. Learns that he/she cant get a job with no career plans so goes to Korea

8. Loves Korea so much and posts about it on Daves

7. Six months later posts again about how much he/she hates Korea and is never coming back

6. Leaves Korea and gets a real job and realizes that working an actual 40 hours a week sucks

5. Posts on Daves how he/she is desperate to come back to Korea

4. Has been smoking pot so posts again on Daves about how to beat the test

3. Comes to Korea and immediately finds other westerners to hang out with/makes no attempts to meet any Korean friends

2. Continuously makes plans to study Korean and after two years only knows five words other than food words.

1. And the number one characteristic of the typical Englishee teacher:

Blogs about cultural differences and becomes the resident expert on Korean culture although he/she only hangs out with western people and only eats at western restaurants. His/her biggest preoccupation is wondering when the new Taco Bell is going to open in Itaewon.

Sound familiar anyone?

11. Thinks he/she is the only one that doesn't do everything else on the list and is somehow much better than every other expat.

None of that applies to me. Sure, I shop for western products, but only the healthy ones that aren't part of the Korean diet. The only western restaurants frequented on a fairly regular basis (a few times a month tops) are the veggie-friendly ones in Itaewon.

I don't think you realize just how many qualified people teach here. Sure, Korea sure as heck set the bar low, but don't lump the majority of us in with the slacker crowd.

Sounds a lot like me.

Except I had already been working 40 hours per week for a long time before I ever came here.

I don't hang out with westerners around here. All Korean people and a few Vietnamese. The westerners I meet are usually too focused on drinking and generally living an immature party lifestyle. If I was 22 it would be cool, but i'm pushing 30 so it's kind of lame and superficial.

I have really adapted to Korean culture and do almost everything like a Korean person. It's just easier to go with the flow.

Everything else is accurate.

What's your problem? You're fine with insulting stereotypes, but when people say they don't behave like that you're nasty.

How about:
13. Hates people who don't follow the previous 12 because it makes them feel inadequate.

Grow up.

How do you do everything like a Korean person? I didn't know there was a Korean coda that every single Korean person follows. Further, how is going out and getting drunk several times a week any different from a large percentage of Koreans, especially the men?

Actually, I do know what you mean by being "Korean" and I try NOT to be "Korean" as do many of my Korean friends. I don't want to study/work 14 hours a day then go out and get wasted with people I don't like but have to kiss butt to and never see my family. I don't care how anyone lives their lives, but let's stop pretending that some people are better for being "Korean". You'll never be Korean no matter how much you try.

Anyway, let's get back to pretending we're better than others because we eat noodles instead of sandwiches.
