Will, do you have any idea about when we can start expecting our contract/NOA packages? I've heard it could be about a month after our documents were in, or it could be about a month before we leave... I will certainly feel much better about the whole thing when I have a contract in hand! |
Tough to say. For many aspects of the hiring process, we know the day after it happens. For example, many teachers ask if we know when the hiring stops, and the answer is we will know the day after it happens.
Last semester, the majority of the NOAs went out pretty close to when people were expected to depart. A couple weeks in advance of the departure date. I know you probably don't want to hear that.
Keep in mind that EPIK has gotten better and faster every semester, so I wouldn't be shocked if they went out earlier. |

Easy answer - unemployment.
If you've been unemployed for a long period of time, or are a recent graduate without many job opportunities and student loans...it makes perfect sense. |

Hey guys, I'm waiting on my recruiter to go through my EPIK application and then contact me about being interviewed before it's sent to the EPIK offices and it's been about 4 days now without hearing anything.
I'm VERY tempted just to apply to EPIK directly and forget this whole middle-man recruiter thing. I'm just worried that people are going to get in before me and my window of opportunity with EPIK is closing with every day that passes and my application isn't sent.
What do you think? Wait and go through with the recruiter? Or send my letters and application direct and then wait for the interview call from them?
How long did it take you guys from the time your app. was ready and your recruiter finished looking through it and got it to EPIK? |

I'm from the UK and just wondered if anyone knew about how to get a CRB check? Because on the website it says you need to do it for an employer. I've got a job at a summer school in July and they said they'd do one for me, but not until they've received my references, and by then it might be too late. So does anyone know how I get one myself?
Also, the application form asks for my GPA, which we don't have in the UK, do you think I'm alright to just put my grade, I got a 2.1?
And I know I'm full of questions but again, does anyone know how I go about getting my documents apostilled in the UK. I've tried to do a search but it didn't work so I'm sorry if someones already mentioned all this!
Thanks to anyone who can help me! xxx |
Just go to this website and download the form. Save you from going all the way to the police station.

I got mine back after 3 weeks so make sure you fill out the form asap. |

We applied directly and it was super fast - we'd had interview and confirmation within a week or so, but we applied pretty much the day applications opened - i get the feeling EPIK office is pretty crazy right now and whatever route you go down is going to take a bit more time. I'd possibly stick with the recruiter cause they know who you are and you have someone direct to contact, if you apply to EPIK directly at this stage you might get lost under the masses of paperwork |

I applied through them as well and had tosend my docs to a rodeslplanet email address. Did you do the same?
I worry about sending documents by email in case they could be used in an ID fraud scam?

Hey
I'm applying through ESL Planet. I pretty much have all my documents ready now, i just need to put the finishing touches on the application. Its typical though, just as applications are about to be accepted I got a temporary job here in the UK that I had been after for a while which will tide me over until august and give me some savings to take with me to Korea. Had double the paperwork I had planned for haha, but coping. Hopefully I will get my application emailed off tomorrow after work
I'm really hoping to get into Daegu this year. Seems like it would be a neato place to be.
Oh Yeah, I'm a MA(UK undergraduate version) Philosophy grad. |

Finished interview.
A few questions for all those who've been contacted post-interview.
Did anyone of you feel confident after the interview actually ended?
Is an ambiguous feeling generally standard practice?
Also, how long afterwards were you contacted? |

Arrrggghhhh!
I passed the EPIK interview several days ago, but have just been told by my first choice MOE (Busan) that 'all their positions have been filled'. Then again they could just be talking BS, who knows. But suffice to say, It looks like I won't be getting into my first choice if I bother sending my documents to EPIK. I may be prepared to accept my 2nd choice, but to be honest I'm not overly keen. Especially since they seem to treat people with disdain during the recruiting process.
So, I'm not sure what to do now. I mean, is it really worth me spending 40-50 to send my documents?? Should I just do it anyway, to give me another option? As a lot could happen from now until August |

Hi,
I thought I would mention my EPIK experience thus far.
I have no unique qualifications-- a bachelors in business and a 100 hour internet TEFL certificate on the way, a couple years tutoring (non related subjects) experience.
I applied via a recruiter (ESL Planet) on Sunday 4/25.
I received word my application was accepted on Friday 4/30.
I had my interview on Thursday May 6th @ 11pm PST.
I was interviewed by a man named Steven who I had no difficulty understanding.
A large majority of the interview consisted of him asking me things from my application, even my name/date of birth! Then the remainder of the questions were fairly simple. I will not lie, I had prepared 50 questions/responses to be fully prepared.
I was asked in NO particular order:
1. Why did you choose Korea over another country?
2. What do you think you will have difficulties with coming to Korea? (I answered for both personal & professional in the classroom)
3. What hobbies/interests do you have?
4. What skills have you learned from prior work experience that may help teach?
5. How would I help a co-teacher afraid to speak English?
6. How would you get the students to care about learning English?
7. How would you handle large class numbers with varying English levels?
8. How would you handle bad behavior?
Those were all of the questions I was asked, in addition to some simple Application verification. I should note that I maintained extreme flexibility on my application. If you really want the job, flexibility is a must. Flexibility on the application translates into flexibility on the job. So while I marked preference for metro cities or specific ages, I maintained my eagerness and willingness to work anywhere.
At 18 minutes for the entire thing, I was a little worried. Some people here were interviewed an hour!
This morning (Tuesday 5/11) I received word that I passed my interview and received a very strong grade.
Now, to copy my documents and send them off. |

How do you know you received a 'very strong grade'? Everyone else seems to have been simply told if they were accepted or rejected. |

If you're not overly keen, you might want to do something else to prepare in the meantime and apply for the next intake, as soon as it opens. Do you want to be stuck somewhere that you're not wanting to be, for a year? Unless it's just that you'd prefer the first a lot more but would like the 2nd too. Sending the documents is another option, but will you take it or not? That's what makes it worth it or not.

1) Yes. I think my interview went very well and from the way they were talking, it felt as if I'd all but passed. The less than confident time came for all these document problems/first come first serve.
2) If you mean not knowing whether you'll get in or not, then yes, for me anyway.
3) One day. |

I was just repeating what my recruiter said he was told from EPIK when he spoke to them. For all we know EPIK said, "He did very well and we passed him," and he just put his own extra spin on it. I assume a pass is a pass, so it probably doesn't matter as long as you do pass (the whole first come first serve thing).
Don't stress! |

Morticate, how long did it take your recruiter to go through your application and forward it to EPIK?
I submitted mine to my recrutier about 4 days ago and I'm still waiting for word before it moves on to EPIK. At this stage, I'm really worried it's going to be too late and am very close to submitting directly to EPIK. I understand that most people feel safer going through the recruiter though... |

Rowan at ESL Planet puts that on all successful applicant emails I think. I am not sure if you get graded specifically based on your interview other than the pay scale grade you put on the application.
I've had a good experience with ESL planet so far and emailed everything to Rowan's gmail address without issue. Had quite a long discussion with him on Skype and he seems like a decent guy to me.
The waiting continues... |

At the current moment I'm thinking I might even be willing to be placed in North Korea if it means escaping a Tory government. |
