I'm sitting here in Canada with a bottle of Charm soju that I paid $6 for here. Damn taxes! Rolling Eyes

Anyway, as much as I want to say it, I can't say that I'm loving it. It tastes liked watered down sweetened vodka.

Oddly, I remember enjoying it more in Korea. Maybe it's because I am lacking the samgyepsal.

How do you feel about soju?

INGREDIENTS LIST on bottle (in English): water, alcohol, sugar, fructose, critic acid and salt.

I used to drink it back home in NZ with Korean mates when we went out to eat, it was fine then to be honest and will probably do the same when I go back.

At the moment though, no. Far too much of that stuff at work gatherings for me to want to drink it when I don't have to.

If it's a night out with friends, I like it. It's cheap and gets everyone sloppy.

However, it's really one of the few drinks I can think of that I'd rather not sip on at home. Beer at home? Sure - my choice for all seasons. Whiskey on a winter night? Absolutely. Mak gul li on a rainy day? Hell yeah. Soju? Nah.

My enjoyment of soju goes in cycles. I start out liking it somewhat, then my enjoyment of it grows, until I hit a day where I drink too much and get sick, which results in a strong adversion to the smell and taste of soju for some time, after which I start to like it again.

I think for me it it more about the price than the actual product. If I have a s***ty week at work and want to forget about it. 5 bottles of good ol' Original does the trick. And it still costs less than 10,000 Won. But if I am eating samgyepsal then for some reason Soju tastes much better.

I still drink it time to time here in the US but I refuse to pay $8+ bucks for a bottle in a restaurant here.

Fox hit the nail on the head! I am just like this.

I can't drink it plain for the most part still after the last over indulgence in late December. At home, I drink gin which is pretty cheap. If I'm out, it's usually the dongdongju or beer. My body seems to have become less alcohol (and calorie) resilient since before I came here.

I liked it the first time i tried and and still like it. I typically drink it by following a shot of Soju with a shot of beer.

I only like it when its mixed with Cider/Sprite. Other than that, I'll pass.
