Now don't take me the wrong way but I'm always quite curious about cases like this, I want my thai, filipina, etc etc gf to come to Korea.
In my case I came to Korea at first, whilst not teaching that is, because my girlfriend (now wife) WAS Korean and then a bit of travel and after working on a C-4 (the old demolition expert visa aka in and out making as much damage as possible) decided to come back and try an E-2.
Just curious why if peeps have a girl from other parts of Asia, why they didn't go there instead of Korea. I've actually had offers to teach in the Phillipines before and the wage offered has been somewhat similar, plus the beaches there just look ten times better than here, theres no bally bally lifestyle (although I would have been working in a Korean owned school, which seems almost the norm there?) Simply put life seems more hassle free there, so why Korea when your gal is from ... thats my question |

Let's get back to the topic.
Immigration has been cracking down on illegal aliens since last year, esp. Filipinos. Places where Filipinos used to abound are largely absent of them now, and I hear of quite a few who have been here years (legally or illegally) being deported.
There are plenty of guys who wish they could bring their Southeast Asian girlfriends to Korea, and while I imagine it's not impossible, it will be quite tough. |

Get her a factory job or a Korean farmer husband. |

I'm not doubting you, but I can't believe you brought a filipina girlfriend from the Phillipines to Korea while you worked. How did you get around immigration laws? |
No, they were working here. |

That's totally different. She already had a job and probably a visa.
If you were to import a Filipina straight out of PI then you'd have to arrange to support the family, otherwise she isn't going to live with you, and you'll have to marry her too. |

Hook me up with a job that pays 2.5 million won + housing + airfare + medical + pension + completion bonus anywhere in South East Asia and I will leave right away.
Hell, even if it pays 2 million + housing I'd go. So if you know of any jobs like these in SEA please PM me. |

Which is not what we were discussing. People were saying that in such a relationship..it's a given you have to support the family.
And I'm just wondering exactly how many people have been in such a relationship or are just parroting stuff they've heard from elsewhere. Certainly in neither of my relationships was it ever true.
And I personally know two guys who "imported" their wives..neither had to support the family. They were actually the ones who gave me the advice in the first post I made on this thread.
It MAY be rare...but it does happen. If she picks the support of her family over you...she's probably not someone you'd want to marry anyway...so you've dodged a bullet.
Just like Koreans, Filipinas are not part of the Borg Collective...they don't ALL act in the same way. |

I just got one in Thailand for that.
60 000 Thai baht = 2.10831818 million South Korean won
+ plus housing, visa expenses, medical insurance, etc.
Long hours though - M-f, 8-4 with 1 hour lunch break, 20 classes per week. Cost of living is a lot lower here though. (I am not in the big mango). I love a sit down lunch for 25 baht and dinner for under 40 (up to 150thb (5k won) in a nice restaurant though).
3 bedroom furnished house with air, cable and DSL (full time maid costs me $100 per month though).
IF you are qualified there are lots of decent jobs out there and the salaries are competitive.
Why do guys with SE Asian G/Fs want to work in Korea?
Two comments:
1) Easy to find a pretty, SE Asian G/F from any number of countries and they tend (unless you chose the bar girl from last Saturday night) to be more "you" and "home" oriented than you find at home or in Korea (or Japan).
2) Most of them (the guys) aren't qualified enough to get a decent job elsewhere. Entry level jobs in most places in Asia pay peanuts. (15-30k baht in Thailand, 3k-6k RMB in China) or you need thousands to get settled (like Japan)
Those who are qualified can easily equal the jingle in the jeans at the end of the month that is offered by Korea in any number of countries and with less grief from the system too.
For those with entry level qualifications - Korea is still the best paying gig around and SE Asian G/Fs still give the least \grief at the end of the day.
In regards to "support for the family", it has been my personal experience that this is NOT often the case (again unless you marry the bar girl from last weekend's bender).
I know MANY COUPLES in Fil/west or Thai/west marriages and it is NOT usually the case that you need to support the family. Generosity is nice but not a requirement.

While I don't know specifically about the Philippines--I've never been there--I don't think that's true. I had no problem sponsoring my girlfriend (now my wife) for a few visits several years ago to Korea. She's southeast Asian as well--not Filipina, but not from a rich country by any stretch of the imagination. She *is* from a fairly wealthy family, but the embassy wouldn't have had much of a way of knowing that from the documents they asked her to provide, besides her degree and job title (English teacher).
Now just this week, she and I sponsored her family to come here for a vacation next month. They didn't have any problem getting the visa either, although in their case the embassy *did* know they're well-off because the parents' work documents were brought into play this time. |

(Some) Filipina girls seem like totally a bad deal, then. My advice: don't commit yourself to anything with any girl if money is part of the equation, b/c then you'll always be working for others to leech off you, and also never really be sure of the girl's motivations. |

A) it would depend on SPECIFICALLY where she is from. Different rules for different countries. As an example, Thai nationals can get a short stay, no visa entry so getting a 90 day C3 is not that hard. The same can be said for Chinese with travel documents or residence from HK or Macau.
b) it has always been easy by comparison when inviting FAMILY into the country as compared to trying to invite a non-related individual with no greater connection than "cyber girlfriend", especially from a country that has a history of illegal migration to Korea.

Yeah, suppose so. Well, it's her family *now* that's visiting (my wife lives here now, of course). But a couple years back, she was just my girlfriend. Not a cyber girlfriend or anything though... and it may have helped that when she applied at the embassy the first time I was physically present there as well--good timing, since I happened to be on vacation there at the time.
She's not Thai either though. Nor the rich country in the region (Singapore) nor the relatively well-off one (Malaysia). |

How'd you landed a job like that? TESOL? Masters? Many years of experience?
Surely you're netting more than you would with 2.5M in Korea. |

That basically leaves 4 fairly likely possibilities: Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. I am going to guess Indonesia. |
