To make a long story short, I have the opportunity to live in a large 4 bedroom house about 5-10 minutes drive from Suyu Station, nestled underneath the mountains with a huge yard, swimming pool, no concrete high-rises in the vicinity, and amidst a charming neighborhood of low-rise villas and a pleasant golmok market. Air is clean, mountains are my backyard, public park nearby, and probably the most pleasantly scenic little corner of Seoul I've come across outside of Samcheon-dong.
The neighborhood is directly north of Duksung Women's University:
On the other hand, it's far from everything as you can see here:

Anyone have experience living out in the sticks up there? |

I lived in suyu about 2 years ago and hated it. There was really nothing to do there and if you wanted to go out it was a trek on the subway to get anywhere - itaewon, gangnam and other popular haunts are a good hour or so away. Having said that my needs and what i would want have changed substantially in the past few years and your set up sounds like something i would like now. There is some great hiking up in the hills and if you want some variety in your diet then Hyehwa is only a few stops down the blue line - although if you really are nestling in foot hills then the subway station is a taxi ride away as well so you can add that time to any journey time.
let me know if you want any specific info and i'll try and get my memory working properly. |

Thanks. That's the feeling I got. Totally isolated from the more entertaining and cosmopolitan parts of Seoul.
I did notice some kind of light rail construction happening on the main street that cuts down towards Suyu Station but that's still adding a lot of time to the commute down to the subway.
Shame because the area really is picturesque with those mountains in the background. |

suyu station is a typical neighborhood near a subway stop. typical korean restaurants, a couple western style bars, low prices compared to gangnam. i'm fairly satisfied with the neighborhood. |
