Buddhas birthday was actually Sunday, May 02nd.
however, the public holiday for it is Friday, 21st May.
(I guess they didn't want it to interfere with childrens day).
Teachers day is Saturday, (15th May) - damn! I don't work on Saturday - so probably no gifts for me. |

Um, no. It happened to fall on May 2 last year, but it is observed on the 8th day of the fourth month on the Lunar calendar. |

AHH! The internet tricked me again!
I actually argued with a student over what day Buddhas birthday was.
and I actually have a Buddhist calendar on the wall behind me - and the 8th day of the 4th lunar month is 21st May.
I will have to apologize to my student tomorrow. |

Look at any calendar. Is the number red? Then yes, unless you are working at a hagwon pulling some serious monkey business. You might have to work a Saturday, but I've never heard of someone working a red day. |

We should also be getting Election day off as well on June 2nd if I recall. Don't have my calendar handy so I may be wrong on the day. But I believe it is the first Tuesday of June. |

The last I heard, it is obligatory that offices have to give employees time to go vote. Most places consider it a national holiday so no one comes in. Granted, you can't vote, but they should at least give everyone a half day. My husband's old workplace didn't give them any time off so it really is up to the school.
I have taught at a hagwon that functioned on Children's day. I thought it was absolutely crappy. But there you go.
Buddha's birthday *should* also be a day off. But hagwons can get away with a lot.
I hope you all got nice gifts for Teacher's Day. Even though it is Saturday, the mother's at my part time hagwon remembered and sent presents a day early. So sweet~ |

It's the first Wednesday of June. My adult hagwon is closing on the 21st of May and the 2nd of June. The 21st, but not the 2nd is a red day on my phone scheduler. Olleh! |

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as far as hagwons are considered. I got Children's Day off and will be getting Buddha's B-day off as well. Also, we would be having a workshop the day before, but they canceled it, so four day weekend!! |
