I work in a government office in Seoul, and recently Google Chrome started to give me a message that I need to download some Active X software to access very common sites like Google and the New York Times. It says its because my computer doesn't have the software but other sites work fine though and Internet Explorer handles them just fine. In fact, in some cases, if I load a page in IE first, then Chrome is albe to load it. It's fantastically annoying and the IT guy told me he can't do anything about it. I think he's just a lazy basterd though.

Is anyone familar with what I'm talking about and know of a way to circumvent it. Me and my colleagues would be most grateful as they share my dislike of Internet Explorer as well.

Here is the actual message( In case it may help and you understand Korean. The first part is the alert message. Then after clicking that the page loads with the "Distribution..." as a graphic header.

Not sure what the problem is, but I know a lot of Korean websites just won't work with chrome. I think its because many websites run pop-ups with security certificates and whatnot that are based on activeX

I'd guess it's a monitoring piece of software used by your office to see how the staff are using the internet. But I'm not sure.

Korean govt offices use activeX scripts all over the place for 'security'. Plus, they only expect people to use IE......so Chrome will be buggy if it doesn't have this bit of activex installed.

I had this too one day in my rural school (only there once a week) with Firefox. I had NO IDEA what to do to get around it. It blocked nearly every page I loaded. The next week I was there, it was gone.

I had chrome installed on my office computer. Then one day it was gone. So I installed it again. The next day it was gone again. The shortcut icons are still there on the desktop, but all the files are missing. It's odd.

I might try and install firefox instead next week. IE6 is not cutting it..

It happens at my school. If I just run IE, install the stupid Active X junk, then close it and boot Chrome back up, it stops pestering me.
