Both links are outdated, they've already started the overhaul on the building, the glass has been put on and everything now. Egypt are helping or something.
Said to finish 2012 - 100th anniversary of Kim il sung (vague memories from wikipedia). Incidentally the same year the world explodes. |

Right, but they also said they would have it finished by June 1989 for the World Festival of Youth and Students. How did that work out? You really think it will be ready to go and open for business in a year and a half? |

| The big push now is to have alot the building 'look' finished by 2012, in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Great Leader's birth. You can see a Google Earth picture of the progress here. |

Right. They are going to make it look less hideous, but it will still be an empty eyesore.
In comparison, the 63 building only cost 180,000,000,000 Won to make.
What a colossal waste of money the 류경호텔 has been! |

Aye, aye. I haven't read about it, but why would anybody even help them for this? Not even China is really on their side anymore but Egypt is helping? =\ |

| Orascom, the Egyptian company that's doing the work, also installed and operates the only 3G cell phone network in North Korea. They claim that the two ventures are not connected and that they 'wanted' to complete the Ryugyong as a way of connecting with the North Koreans. There's alot of information about Orascom and the Ryugyong Hotel posted on this site. |

I have a North Korean phrasebook (they call it 조선말 instead of 한국말) and they do indeed call it 호텔. I was surprised too- I was expecting it to be more 순수. |

They get plenty of arms through the good ol' USA. Orascom is also one of the biggest telecom companies in the world.
And given the fact that the country is the USA's 2nd biggest recipient of financial "assistance", I don't think the latter is going to put __ billion dollars in aid on the line in order to get nukes from the DPRK. |
