| Can't seem to remember but does EPIK provide up front airfare, or is it reimbursed later. Also, how long does one usually have to wait until the money is reimbursed? First paycheck? It's just a reach when you are living on your own funds for a month as well as purchasing an expensive plane ticket. |

They do NOT provide it in advance.
How long to wait for reimbursement depends on the school - anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. |

| Thanks! I've read that some schools, although they are reluctant [as would I be in asking], will provide an advance if needed. Are EPIK schools more willing to do so, because of the teacher's expenses in relocating? |

No, which is why they provide the settlement allowance.

I got my reimbursement in 3 days, I got my settlement allowance at the same time. A friend of mine who started at the same time got his about 3 weeks later. It seems the problem is setting up a bank account without an Alien ID card which could take a couple weeks to get.
I would plan on supporting yourself for 3 weeks at least. If you really cant I would ask about having a bank account set up for yourself before you get your ID card. I'm not sure how, but somehow I got a bank account before I had an alien ID card though none of my friends starting at the same time did. |
