From The Korea Times:

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/art/2010/05/135_65945.html

Quote:
The mummy from the early Joseon dysnasty has been uncovered at an industrial site in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, in South Korea.

It remained approximately 500 years, and this female mummy believed to be a wife of the high-level government officer buried with handbag, finest clothing, and decent hairstyle. Those items expect to be used as precious study materials for researching life style of Joseon dynasty.

Husbands tomb was founded same area as well. There is possibility to be a couple mummies.

This is badddd.....I guess they are cutting back on native-speaking employees and are going the cheaper route?

I'm guessing that this was an intern who got it posted before it was edited. I've noticed a lot of their (KT) newspapers will have shockingly racist statements (mostly about Japanese) and when I go to the same article online it's all cleaned up.

I'd say both are about equal

I've actually stopped counting but some do provide an occasional chuckle

then again, maybe I'm just too pedantic...

ps. the Herald is really hard on the eyes in its "hard copy" due to the colour of its newsprint - reminds me of Saturday "Sporting Pink" in England - I won't say how long ago!

they're both useless, but there's just not enough money in operating an english language newspaper in korea to pay for quality writing.

seems like korea times is more right-wing than korea herald though, is that a fair assessment?

I usually encourage low-level students here to read those newspapers. I encourage high-level students to read them as a proofreading exercise, to find the mistakes.

Both are at the journalistic level of a good campus newspaper in north America, though I much prefer the KH, which makes some genuine attempt to be international. It can sometimes be a newsprint Arirang with feel-good stories. At least it generally isn't attacking foreign teachers.

The KT is especially crappy in its standards, biases, and arrogance. I always try to warn new teachers here that the KT is not on their side and is not a source of PR or help for them. I would not miss it.

English newspapers weren't available in Jeollanam-do except by subscription, so I could never check out the print copies. But the Korea Times' website has far and away the worst English out of any of the English-language papers and sites. Every day there are articles in "English" and Korean to help readers practice their "English," but I have no idea if these make it into the actual paper. Among other things, the writers there struggle mightily with pronouns.

For news I kind of like KBS (http://english.kbs.co.kr). It's updated pretty quickly, and unlike a lot of Yonhap its content isn't subscription-only. The articles are short, though, which can be good and bad.

No reason to have an 800-word article in the Times when you can pretty much guarantee a lot of it has been fabricated or distorted.

They're both on the level of high-school newspapers, so neither.
