The book idea is good though...might do that when I reach the "sleazy old man" stage that jade mentioned and have enough time between changing my diapers. |

I have no problem with paying. I have always felt the if both parties are willing participants it is nobody's business.

Well, the season is divided into two distinct halfs... but I guess that's still not much an an excuse. 
Basically they just wanted to make room for Seoul City Hall FC, perhaps in the push to getting a Seoul FC created. |

| uijeongbu is a hole, but i called it home for the better part of two years. maybe i'm being unfair. it's got a bunch of little friendly bars. if you're there, i recommend the roma night club. a sleazier place you will not find. |

| for 13 months when stationed at CRC, yah, I was one of those "monkeys". That was 31 years ago. I went back there and it is a bit of a skeleton of what it use to be. Now I only see Filipina ladies in the bars and I can imagine how they got there and what conditions they work under. I saw a group in one bar getting a thorough scolding from the mamasan for talking to customers too long without having those customers pay. I call then Filipina ladies because they are probably sending what earnings they make back home. I only had a beer in a few bars near CRC and wasn't impresssed. |

31years ago it was like 10bucks to buy hot poon around there - so I hear from my buddy who was stationed there 20years ago.
I've been up there many times. Uijonbu is ghetto. All of it sucks. The bars are seedy, but sometimes seedy is good when you are used to good, clean bars.
Those hostess bars are a joke. I went to one with some friends who work for the DoD up there. You don't have to buy the woman, but usually it's 10 bux for about 15mins of their time. It's good for entertainment...one of your buddies is drunk and starts wasting cash on a girl. (Happened to one of our members...he wasted about 60 bux just talking...he could have bought some poon with that much cash)
Anyways I wouldnt work in Uijongbu for anything less than 4-5mil tax free a month for under 20hrs of teaching a week.
Good luck to those who endure that ghetto. |

Here's an idea... try something other than the hostess bars.. and try to pick up a girl rather than asking how much she is..
Like all towns there is a seedy section.. just avoid it if you're going to rip it and take "the moral high ground"...
I've actually come to like the place.. Yes, its MUCH quieter than the busy districts of Seoul, but that's it beauty.. you want more 'exciting, big city' things to do.. hop on line #1.. its right there...
Less pollution, less hassle but yet all the convieniences of the 'big' city are like a 30 minute subway ride away... the ideal suburb... subway is packed every morning of the week and every weekend with people who hike the mountains... its sort of like a small town Korea that you can access by the subway rather than an hour or so bus ride.. people are all friendly, the smog is not nearly as bad, and its not a sterile, superstore mecca like Ilsan..
To each their own I guess... to rip a place of which you've only frequented that less-than-pure places is a joke.. sorta like all the American bashing people do based on "that one time I drove through Detroit" or "that one time we went to that sleazy bar in downtown Chicago"...
Although the one bar that endofthewor1d once recommended me to go to is dead 99% of the time (must of been much cooler 'back in the day' I guess).. there are a ton of good little bars and a great little ex-pat community (although admittedly it took me a little while to find!).. not everyone feels like hitting Seoul every weekend so there's always a good sized group around... plus, we apparently have a K-2 soccer team now!
That being said, if I didn't have the job I did, I might want to live in a place that has a little more action to it 24/7... but I've got no huge complaints about this place at all.. its far from a ghetto as Mr. Pink would have ya believe.. I just imagine he always made a B-line from Uijeongbu Station to the hostess bars.. or he only hung out at the GI bars.. either way.. he's describing the place through his sleaze coloured glasses |

The town is a ghetto.
I mentioned hostess bars because someone else was talking about those.
There isn't much there. Seriously I've been up there PLENTY of times. There are bases, there is the usual stuff you see in most Korean towns. However I noticed the town is dirtier than a lot of other towns. The quality of Korean people isn't much better.
Traffic is also crazy. I have no idea why such a small ghetto town takes over an hour to get through during rush hour.
Anyways these are my perceptions. If I worked there I would live about 4 stations south of Uijongbu...I personally don't enjoy living in ghetto type areas. |

There are loads of things to do.. just depends what you're into...
Uijeongbu is swarmed on the weekend by people who want to hike up the mountains... Anything "outdoorsy" is pretty much done in Uijeongbu... jogging routes, bike trails, etc...
As far as nightlife, it is far less hyper than Hongdae or the like, but there is a decent community here and we always seem to have a good time with each other, Korean friends, even with the GIs sometimes!...
If you crave Seoul.. it takes about 40-45 minutes to get to the core of the city
it's much quieter than Seoul, but much cleaner...
Yeah, I do get bored here sometimes, but anyone who tells you they never get bored, wherever they are, is lying....
it is far from a ghetto... there are worse places where you can teach... |
