I personally love Tokyo Disneyland, and I'll probably take a trip there this summer too. However, it depends on how much of a theme park person and Disney fan you are. A lot of my friends from America found that Tokyo Disney was too similar to California and Florida (Tokyo was purposely designed to be a carbon copy of Disneyland in CA). Most of the similarities are purely physical, though. I actually think Tokyo does a better job keeping up the Disney spirit than either of the original parks in America.
The best Tokyo Disney advice I can give anyone- go on a weekday while Japanese schools are still in session. I think Japanese summer vacation starts around late July. On weekends and school vacations the entire resort is absolutely mobbed and you'll wait 45 minutes just for a bucket of popcorn.
If you want to know more, feel free to message me. I always love to talk about Tokyo Disney |

pm's are on the way. I would really love to hear about your experience there. My wife has never been to Disney so it will be a great time for her. |

Hi Roadballmint (& other Disney visitors),
I live in Seoul but I am debating whether to take my 7-year-old child to Tokyo Disneyland for a special treat or just go to an amusement park here in Korea. Which theme park here in the best for that age?
Have you gone to Everland? Is it comparable to Tokyo Disneyland? Is the extra expense of Tokyo Disneyland (airfare & hotel) worth it? How much more is there in Tokyo Disneyland? Is there "Disney magic" that wasn't available in the Korean amusement parks??

Everland is the definition of carbon copy.
I have been to Hk Disney, but not Tokyo. HK Disneyland has almost no rides but great other attractions. I loved it, but I would have also loved some nice rides.
Everland has some awesome rides but I found the attractions to be ho-hum. It is a heck of alot closer to home and a lot cheaper too. |

Everland hasn't got a patch on tokyo disneyland. Tokyo is not very expensive to enter and you can hit a button to get a fast pass on the rides to stop you queing up for ages (though you can only get one ticket at a time, you can't just go around getting loads of fast passes)
I loved disneyland, and I didn't really think I would as I haven't watched too many disney movies. But the place is awesome, it is impossible to be unhappy there, even if you are queing up for 45 minutes to go on a ride.
definitely go when school is on, I would hate to go and have to queue for 2 hours to go on one ride.

disneyland doesn't have any express pass (from what I remember) and the express pass for everland can only be used on weekends and also only on 2 or 3 rides.
I went to everland on a thursday (day after childrens day) the longest I waited for any of the rides was 20 minutes, it's def best to go during the week. |

Agreed. I went to HK Disney on a Wednesday and it couldn't have been better. We waited less than 5 minutes for anything. I can imagine a weekend crowd when the people from mainland China come flooding down. Stampede central.

dd (darling daughter) does watch a lot of Disney movies and loves Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White, and carries her Mickey & Minnie Mouse stuffed animals all over the place.
Tokyo DL would be $1000 more (mostly for hotels and the airfare from Korea). It might be a good B-day present for dd but dw thinks it is a wate of money.
Personally, I'm swaying towards Everland. Maybe Disneyland for next year when dd is 7 and would appreciate DL more.

I think you should wait until she is old enough to truely appreciate how special it is to be taken to disneyland. She will be tall enough for more rides and she will have a better memory of the day too. |

dont go on the weekend. ppl run you over.
dont bother buying the fast lane ticket. you can only draw two tickets within an hour and then have to wait two hours to draw new tickets for attractions again.
tokyo disneyland rocks tho. they have a 3d cinema very close to the entrance. went and watched the thing twice cuz it was so cool!
expect to see rediculous things.. e.g adults wearing mini mouse ears head bands, and im talking men. also, its expensive. take food with you, but not too much. and buy the chocolate popcorn, its delicious.
check when the parade is. sometimes they only have a parade once a day and at night they have a show infront of the castle.
they also have other shows, but i was never in time to get to see one.
have fun! |
