So it expired two weeks ago and while my boss said it was all taken care of, it isn't.
Now that I am sitting on his ass, it's getting sorted. But is this an issue? I extended my contract. Will I need to do a visa run? cos I doubt the ******* will pay for it....

Get to the immigration office, and stop letting your boss handle your immigration work. If you are working at the same job, take a copy of your new contract, passport, and ARC to immigration and things should be cleared up quickly. Good luck

It depends.

If your boss knows the right people, he'll likely manage to renew your E2 and you won't have a problem. Keep in mind there is nothing legal about that process. Technically immigration are perfectly within their rights to boot you out of the country anytime since the day your E2 expired.

If you have to renew it yourself, and it's your first offense, they might let you off. A friend overstayed his visa once and was fine. The second time he did it, they booted him and banned him from reentering the country.

Sorting it out shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

It is a big issue and your boss has royally FiretrUCKed you.

IF you are lucky he may (with a box of juice at the local office) be able to get your status extended. That will keep you where you are and out of a detention cell. With any lucky you won't get fined for it. (fines are typically 100k for the first 30 days but can be as high as 100k per day).

The BAD news is that for EVERY NEW VISA application you make in the future you will be making your visa run to your home country because of the immigration violation that is now on your record.

IF you don't have your ARC updated before Thursday, GO TO IMMIGRATION on Friday morning and throw yourself at their mercy.

If you get picked up or questioned by any legal authority for anything before the matter is cleared up you will be waiting your time out in an immigration detention cell until it is taken care of. Best to do it on your own sooner rather than later.

Right, so the latest is this:

He 'phoned Suwon immigration' today. They 'told him' that because I have just renewed my ARC card, I don't need to get a new visa.

HOW STUPID DOES HE THINK I AM !?! !
There is a chance that if he indeed spoke to them, they said that there is a late fine, or that I have to do a visa run. In which case he claims ignorance to me. ********!!!!!!!!!!!

It is now in my hands. More details later. I have the visa form, it's completed and has to be taken care of tomorrow.

I don't understand why you E-2 visa dudes even bother to stay here. Look at all the crap you have to deal with. You're totally at the whim of your ajosshi boss. If I were you...I'd just go back home and make burgers or something....at least you have your freedom bro....

If your ARC has a extension on the back then you are fine.

Yes, this was the case with me. I transferred my visa in August 2009, and Immi updated my ARC, but did nothing to the visa stamp in my passport, so it still showed an expiration date of October 2009. The only time this will be a problem is if you plan to take a short trip out of the country. If you do this, go to the airport immigration office BEFORE YOU LEAVE and get a re-entry stamp which costs about 30,000 won. Luckily, I found this out right before leaving for Shanghai in December. If you fail to do this, you will effectively invalidate your E2 upon your return. They will still let you in, but only as a tourist. You won't be able to work legally because your work visa will be shot, and you will have to start the process all over again. But if you purchase the re-entry stamp you will avoid this.

Or you can just go to your closest immigration office and sort it out now. But, if you really did update your ARC, then there is no rush -you can do it at your leisure.

further, you can get the re-entry stamp at the airort on your way out as well, they'll even remind you of it (cuz they want your money!)..

Thanks for the above post. I knew I was fine to stay in the country, but not that I needed a re-entry stamp. I am visiting the states in July. Thanks for the heads up.

STOP>

IF the new end date has been added to your ARC (and the ARC is in your hand) with the new exit date on the back of it then you are OK.

They don't put anything into your passport unless you get a re-entry permit at the same time as your ARC (be aware that past re-entry privilege does not carry over into an extension period).

IF you do NOT have the dates updated on the back of your ARC then you are off to immigration ASAP.

Right folks
Update:

I called immigration today and they said that if my ARC has a new date on it, then there is no problem with the expired Visa.

Thanks for all the posts peeps!

And I will make a plan to go and have the passport stamped

Cheers
