so i sent off my package with my passport and everything in last week. haven't heard back from them and i'm supposed to fly a week today so getting a little worried, i give them a call.
"...so i sent it all last week, and was just wondering if i need to come in for an interview, or if you'll post it to me or what?"
"ah. when do you fly?"
"next week"
"come pick it up then. okay?"
"what. you mean in the morning on the day i fly?"
"okay! bye!"

That is why you don't buy the ticket before you have a visa.
With the bank holiday on Monday, call them back and see if you can get it on Friday or see if you can change your ticket to wednesday.

I picked my visa up during a layover -- I was flying from Detroit to Seoul, but I arranged a 4-hour layover in Chicago to grab a taxi, dash to the consulate, and pick up my passport/visa. I made it back to the airport with 2 hours and 45 minutes to spare. It was kind of stressful up until I actually did it, but was no big deal in practice. I walked up to the proper desk, and was handed my passport within 30 seconds of arrival....
If you are grabbing it in Chicago, I would say not to worry.... |

The only way you could have possibly done that is by booking two flights. Without your passport, you won't even get your boarding pass for your first leg. |

gadfy,
You mean you booked one flight to Chicago and then booked a separate flight to Korea.
Otherwise Chilgok is right, they would not even have let you on in Detroit with a connecting international flight if you did not have your passport in hand.... |

Patrick,
Well, my experience is 8 years old, and no, I did not book them as separate flights...I paid once for the full round-trip ticket with the stop in Chicago...when I used the other half of the ticket, I also had to stop for 4 hours in Chicago...guess the lake hop was considered domestic, because I didn't need to show my passport to get through boarding....
I would not recommend what I did -- I am just saying that stopping by the office in the morning before an afternoon flight might not be too much cause for concern, as in my case, it went very smoothly and swiftly...anecdotal experience offered as encouragement/mental balm for worry...not any sort of suggestion or advice.... |

Embassy opens at 10. Should be in and out the door in 5 minutes. The only problem you have is getting to the airport on time - it's an hour or so to most of the airports in the London area from the embassy.
Ring them up and beg them to be able to pick it up on the Friday or change your flight. |

Interesting gadfy.
I am surprised they issued you a boarding pass without a passport...8 years ago indeed! |
