Stevens dedicates all of about three seconds to denouncing "employers who look the other way", even though said employers, not ACORN or the welfare-state, are the driving engine of illegal immigration.
The anti-immigration crowd need to put their money where their mouth is. If they're really worried about illegal entry, they should be DEMANDING the arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment of every American who hires an illegal worker. And if they don't have the guts to demand this, they should keep their bloody mouths shut. |

Many of the anti illegal immigration types do support this. |

Maybe they do to some degree. But it would seem that the movement to crack down on the paymasters has not developed enough popular momentum to effect change in enforcement policies. Unless you've heard about legions of soccer moms being rounded up and forced to spend a few months in a cell with the meth whores. |

You mean a populist disgust with illegal immigration when filtered up to the elite develops into a public policy that isn't harmful to the elite? Golly gee whiz. |

So we're basically acknowledging then that this popular outrage can never be channeled in a direction conducive to effective action? In that case, I stand by my previous assertion that the anti-immigration crowd should just STFU. There is no point in wailing about a problem if you are either unwilling or unable to pursue a solution. |

Apparently they are trying to fix the problem. the penaltiess against employers that hire illegals has been stiffened in every state. The Arizona law is designed to do one thing make the U.s. government take action and also force the Mexican government to take action. I just wonder if many posters on here have any idea what illegals have done to the economies of the border states. Of course not , you are from another country. |

No, we're not. With 20% un/underemployment the issue is going to become more and more powerful. There will be meaningful changes. Some will punish individual migrants and some will punish the employers.

no matter the complexity of an issue, there will always be some country music bozo to make it as simplistic, and unexamined as humanly possible. |
