Does anyone know where I can get some Captain Morgan white spiced rum? I don't want the brown stuff that I have seen in Thailand. I want good old light honey colored Captain Morgan.

I live in Busan and that would be best, BUT I go to Seoul on occasion and could get it there.

Anyone have a price as well?

it's around, but never consistently....if you want import liquor of any kind, the best bet is the import market under namdaemun market (near myeong-dong). It's not open on Sundays and tends to have weird hours on Saturdays so the week is the best time to go...unfortunately it's also the most difficult if you're a teacher :p If you get to Namdaemun, you can wander until you find it (what I used to do), or just ask at one of the information kiosks.

I've bought Jameson there for 26,000/750mL bottle which is really not that bad - it's about $22 back home. I don't particularly care for rum, so I've never looked, but I presume it's there...the guy I'm thinking of carries an absurd array of products - galliano, cordials, etc - so I'm sure he's got some rum.

Failing that, if you walk out of exit 8 at sinchon (not to be confused with sincheon near jamsil) station, there's an underground market on your left about 50m from the exit which I've walked past before and I know they sell booze...never stopped to check it out though.

Good luck!

I've looked and I haven't been able to find it here. They do stock it at a lot of the bars in Itaewon, but I haven't seen it for sale. I usually just buy a bottle or two in duty free on my way back to Korea.

Ya I have tried even that with no luck.

Korean Duty Free outbound - strike 1
Thailand Duty Free (only the Captain Dark - non spiced) - strike 2
China Duty Free - strike 3

I found a bar in Beijing that would sell me a bottle but they wanted $120. I love my dear friend Captain Morgan, but the bounty was just too high to save him.

there's a liquor store near me that carries most of the brands that aren't usually available here. i'll try to check it out this weekend and post back to let you know if they carry what you're looking for, assuming that no one else has suggested another place by then.

My fav. bar owner places special orders for me. He is unable to get Capt. Morgans in Korea even on special order. This could be his distributor's problem though.

A friend of mine is importing a bottle for me this summer.

You should try the superior Korean knock-off, Captain-Q. He has two boats and costs about 5,000 for a fifth.

I wouldn't exactly call it "superior", but Captain Q is surprisingly good for the price. I've seen it at Kim's Club in Jangsan and Shinsegae in Centum City's grocery store section. I'm a big fan of dark rums, and unfortunately, this is the only one I've ever seen for sale in stores.

I have, however, seen Captain Morgan at the Sunset Lounge bar in Mipo, near Haeundae Beach. They also have limes for your rum and coke if you're into that. It's the only place in Busan I've seen either of those yet.

It's definitely available in 2 places I can think of in Seoul:

Namdaemun Market (underground arcade) - I was quoted about 25,000 won for a liter bottle which seems very low, but I didn't buy any that day

Sinchon Import Store (next to Lesbian Park) - 35,000 won, but not sure if it was a liter or 700ml

That's where I picked up Myers' Spiced Jamaican Rum for about the same price.

I remember going to the underground market in Namdaemun.

I thought it amusing to see multiple bottles of Johnny Walker. All the liquor in the bottles was a different shade of gold, and with various levels of fullness in these "sealed" bottles.

The only liquor worth personifying in conversation is Mr. Jack Daniels.
