please don't flame me for not trying to find another thread about this. i looked over and over and there was no definite answer. i emailed recruiters and they were hesitant to answer.

this is my question: when i was a college student in 2002 i was arrested for underage drinking. i lived in ohio then and i have always lived in ohio. now i need a state-wide criminal record check and i am positive that it will show up. can i go to or mail another state and get a records check from there or will that cause me issues?

Criminal records should be wiped clean for most 'offences' committed whilst still a minor.

Generally speaking It's ridiculous that a minor offence one committed as say a 14 year old can then affect career and life prospects for them when they are in their 30's, 40's, 50's etc.

GET your CRC and then you will know.

If it is clean then you are good as gold. Get the apostille and away you go.

If it is not clear then you are only out a few bucks and you will know for sure.

IF the offense shows up, get a CRC from another state.
(this makes it more difficult and time consuming to get an apostille however since you need to take/send it to the secretary of state to get the apostille).

it IS on the state check. i've had it done for a different job in the past. i have no problems at all with getting the check done in a different state. i will drive there no problem...

should i not even say a word to the recruiter or school? it will be a non-issue?

Don't tell = non issue.

Tell = no job.

But if you're living in Ohio now, would they not notice that your address state and CRC state don't match up?

Your passport does not show your show state of residence. It only shows your country of citizenship and country of birth.A passport is the only ID required to obtain a visa. It is the only piece of ID that is (by treaty and international law) accepted internationally in ALL countries.

No-one, or at least very few people, around the world know the towns/cities of the US and has any idea what states they are in or even what the different states are.

At this point in time no-one really cares and it is a loophole that exists for people in the States that doesn't exist for people in other countries where there is only 1 data base for all police forces within that country.

His lucky day. Get one from a neighboring state. Get the apositille from the same state and away he goes.

I can only speak for Pennsylvania, but if you come here for the CRC, you need an address and phone number to apply for it. Whether or not it needs to be a PA address, I don't know, but I would suspect so. And the CRC will show that address--but a relative's might work? If anyone in Korea notices the different addresses though, I couldn't say.

Do CRC's need to be apostilled? (We always had that done for Zippy's jobs in SoKorea.) Also, the apostille usually requires a notary's signature (sometimes a Clerk of the Court too for different states but not PA) from the same state that is doing the apostille.

Have no fear! Koreans love consuming alcohol. You'll be welcomed with open arms. Now, if you were caught smoking pot in high school, that's a different story. Cool
