She was still no nearer to her dream because she applied too late (27). Korean air only takes nubile beauty queens, looks are everything.
Next: President Hogwon.
Send little Minsu if you want him to be a world leader. Extra classes on how to lie through your teeth and embezzle millions. |
This is a load of crap, there's quite a few that are not so attractive.
Are looks a big part? Yes, but not everything. I know some really pretty girls that got rejected from Korean air |
Yep, same here. As with any job in Korea (especially for women), looks help, but there are other standards they are selected by. |

They are scams.
The flight attendant hagwons and the airline industry are colluding. For example, K-Air would hold a big interview for openings. Everyone would be denied a job position. However, during the interview process they will mention that they hire a lot of people from XYZ flight attendant hagwon.
All the wannabe flight attendants go to that hagwon thinking their chances of hire are better. The hagwon kicks back some of the money back to the airlines. |

The universities do the same with their degrees in acting, modelling and fashion design. |

| I have airline students at my uni, this semester and last. they are consistently along with nursing and early childhood education the best English speakers in all my classes. I always wonder why they want to be stewardesses when some of them seem very bright. |

Flight attendants are actually considered reputable jobs in Korea. One of the main reasons for that is the intense competition. Good looks isn't going to land someone a flight attendant job. It is a highly competitive job market, where one woman is easily competing with at least 500 other people for the job.
Throw in the benefits of being able to travel for free and get the hell out of Korea, its a dream job for many. |

According to my co-worker, it's an easy way to meet rich, single Korean dudes......stewards are trophy wife material....
Also my co-worker was under the impression they're paid quite well.....however some in the states can advance quite far and get some nifty benefits.... |

| In my first class with my nursing class I asked the students why they chose that major...expecting to hear some variant of "to help people". A surprising amount straight up said "to meet and marry a doctor". Nurses also on average have comparable English to the Stewardesses...maybe a little worse. Seems like a very sought after job. |

I have a few good friends who either are, or have been flight attendents. The motivation for a lot of girls who come from a poor background, is it's a way to see the world if they couldn't otherwise afford it.
As far as the looks things goes. One of my friends works for Air Emirates and she was denined a job at Korean Air because her skin wasn't nice enough.
The "look" for flight attendants is very specific. There is a specific body type and face shape that is the correct look for flight attendants. You'll notice that the KTX girls have that same look, but they'll be a little less good looking. |

Everything a Korean woman does from the age of 16 onwards... is part of a grand scheme to marry a rich man with a good job. Women tend to be in love with status.
In the west they'd be focussing on finding a good job and being rich themselves, but alas this is Korea and opportunities are limited. |

Opportunity is severely limited just about any where you go unless you are already in the money from your rich daddy. I see Korea offering more to it's young to middle age than what I see being offered back home. I'm actually seeing young executives and a highly industrious people running on the old flawed idea of social upward mobility through high work performance. Old flawed idea, because favoritism, bribes, and nepotism discreetly determines hires, promotions, and social upward mobilities. Excellence walking in the door is used and abused to get the grunt work done. If you are used and abused, you are probably doing an excellent job actually doing your job.
Women are hard to meet leading guys to want an adult teaching gig. I would anticipate to be used and abused in almost any job catering to lucrative industries like travel, entertainment, and high up executives. Fact is, if you got money, lots of flexible free time, and fun toys like a Porsche, then you can pay to play their dating games. Being proletariat is not the way to get the good life, but you will try in vain anyhow just to allow a chance at the possibility of winning. If going for a job specifically to meet women, you'd probably do better meeting kindergarten and elementary teachers as they are still young and often unmarried. Some a little too flirty in my opinion, because I don't go to a job looking for a very personal relationship. |

My girlfriend is finishing up her three month stint at a major flight attendant hagwon. From what she's told me, looks do count (clear skin, slim, etc.) but only to an extent. The training is more multi-faceted than you'd imagine. Steward(esses) need a high degree of English fluency, have strength and swimming tests, safety drill procedures, make up styles etc.
It's very competitive. Recently, at the Qatar resume submission day at COEX, over 800 applicants showed up, waiting since ~4am. And based on the benefits offered by Qatar, it is one of the worst airlines to work for as a stewardess. Emirates and the better ones are even more competitive.
There's also a stigma about stewardesses being more susceptible to diseases, which has some basis I guess. Lots of guys are hesitant to date them despite their prestigious jobs, or send them gifts of ginseng - happened to students at my GF's school. |

Not in the U.S.?

Add in their benefits package and they are making at least the equivalent of 6 to 7 million won a month. They are doing much better than English teachers in Korea. Oh yeah, and don't forget to
