Has anyone noticed this special mug? What do you think about it? I like it. It looks much more distinctive than the mugs that just read "Seoul" or "Korea." Look and then discuss.

It's nice, but I was expecting a distinctive shape. I like the earthy tone composition. Any idea what the rest of the script means besides "The Korean Script" written?

No. Hopefully this wasn't an attempt at humor. Hoon Min Jung Eum is the name of the Hangeul Script book penned by Se Jong.

LOL! And the last word is 'ch' something? I hope your Korean lessons have been free.

Maybe he was talking about 나랏말? That seems like it would mean Korean the same way that 国语 means Chinese, like (our) country's language. I still don't get the "ch something", though.

Edit: Looks like it says 쫑와로서르 at the end, but I don't know what that means.

Actually, "Na Ra Mal Seum Mi" is more accurately translated to 'as our country's leader (king) says".

I believe it's to commemorate King Sejong (founder of Hangul) - there was a Sejong festival a while back. Probably limited edition.

The cup is cool, but like someone said, I was hoping to see an interesting shaped cup.

The entire cup is in old Korean and a lot of the words have since changed it's spelling when they decided to standardize spelling in the last century.
I believe you are getting confused with the old pronunciations of the Chinese.
文字 = 문자 (letters)

I think they have it as 문짱, which is the old pronunciation of the Chinese.

Also, you see the ㅆ with the dot on the bottom, I believe the lone dot is now represented as an ㅏ, so it is 싸

You need to have a laptop on the table to complete the look.

Can't really see buying this for someone who isn't Korean or won't get excited over hangul.

Strange that they would make a 'stamp' as in the bottom corner that says 'Buks Sta'. Why reversed?

I have the thermos cup version. My students say some of the syllables are outdated now.

Yeah. I've had this cup on my shelf for at least that long. I like the design.
