| Is it possible to change schools? I just started at a school and I don't think it is going to work out. How do I go about changing my school and getting a new visa? |

With great difficulty.
Can you give us a few more details? Are you as a PS or a hogwan? How long ago did you start? Last week? A couple months ago? Why do you want to leave? If you've been there only a month, then unless your boss is willing to release you (not likely) your only option is to go home and wait 6 months before applying for another visa. |

| ive been working at a hagwon at for a week. theyre holding my diploma, ive heard about problems with late payment, medical insurance, and paying into the pension fund. i just wanna be prepared for a worst case scenario. |

you're a week in and all they've done is keep your diploma and you're ready to leave? I've never seen mine, but I've never had a problem from my hagwon (I had the same rumors, none of them panned out).
please leave, more jobs for us hard working people if you give up |

Did you get your medical check and Alien Registration Card yet? You have to get your ARC to be registered with the local education office. Without the ARC you can't register for Health Ins and Pension. Until you are registered with the local education office you are not a legal teacher. |

Oh right. I remember your other thread.
First of all, you shouldn't have given them your diploma unless you know for sure that your university will issue you a new one. (In which case, don't worry about it and let them hold onto it.)
Secondly, if you've only been there a week then they may very well be using your diploma to get your paperwork done and get your an ARC.
Did you have the E2 visa when you arrived in Korea (last week)? Or did you come on a tourist visa (i.e. you'll make a visa run to Japan when the visa documents are ready)?
If the only problem you've had so far is that they've held onto your diploma for a week, don't get worried. When you're pay is late or they make strange deductions from it, or other weird stuff, then start worrying. |

So follow these simple steps:
So order a replacement from your uni along with a new "official", sealed transcript and a new crc. Get apostilles on them (if you have family or friends at home that can help you) or get YOUR embassy here in Korea to verify them by way of an affidavit of authenticity.
After they arrive, give your boss the ultimatum - return my diploma or I walk.
If they return it, be happy and continue work.
If they say no then quit - no notice, just quit (have your bags already packed) and walk out the door.
Go home, grab your bags, leave the apartment. Drop them at a friends place or where ever you plan to crash (goshiwon?) until you find a new job.
Go back and get your diploma. If there is a problem, get police assistance to recover your stolen property.
Report to immigration that you quit.
Get your 30 day exit order.
Find a new job. Documents in hand and IN Korea, it won't take long.
Do your visa run and start work at your new job - wiser and more confident.
