i like the weird ranting in the itaewon section

http://korea.wikia.com/wiki/Bars_in_Seoul

BricX

A dark little bar that plays trance music. Good atmosphere, cheap beer, tons of weird-ass shots. The one Korean chick who used to be an English Teacher recruiter and rides on a scooter is still there. She has lost weight and gained it many times. People seem to change around there like a bartender that worked there was all tranced out and a few months later he turned preppy. He acted like nothing ever happened, son, we all noticed! Crap cheezy trance and New Zealand queer-boys make up most of the clientele. In addition, waiters and waitresses fabricate stories about ostensibly gay foreigners 'touching' the female staff in the girls' bathroom " two weeks prior--when said foreigner was neither in the women's bathroom, nor had he been touching anyone in any way whatsoever. Evidence consisted of a single picture of the gay man and his friend exiting the bar, which was used to ban him from the bar. One of these bars that clique people think really makes them socialites around Itaewon.

Fairly accurate description of BricX circa 2004-2005. Very Happy

Quite different there these days, though.

I won't go to Bricx in Hongdae ever again because after having the hookah for 45 minutes, they demanded we pay for a new bowl or give it up. The hookah was still smoking fine and we had already ordered 2 drinks each in 45 minutes.

Gr8 (both locations in Hongdae) is much, much better.

I was at Bricx in Itaewon recently and there is now a 30min. hooka/nagila time limit. We were not too happy about it because they take it away whether you are done or not. Plus, the bar wasn't that busy at the hour we showed up and are pretty sure no one was waiting for it. They also collected a 1,000won deposit for the little inserts for it per person, which were used (not in packaging).

That's just not cool bro'. Korea just isn't that chilled out. Too tense. Save your money for a good time on vacation or when you leave Korea.

Both venues are cool little spots, but issues with service and staff have plagued them for years despite pleas from friends and (formerly) regular customers to be more flexible and friendly.

I once saw staff/manager turn down a party of 15-20 well dressed and loosened up revelers kicked out of a booth seating area (bar was nearly empty) because they didn't want to buy a bottle. They probably lost 3 to 4 times the sales not to mention repeat business and reputation.

With all the high-class competition popping up in Itaewon (MU, Between, Luv) they'd better clean up their act or a former landmark may be in jeopardy.
