Before saying yes to working at an English Festival at another school, make sure that you ask what the pay is. This one particular school is notorious for only paying 10,000 won per hour (and not teaching hour). The English games are well organized and the mother's help a lot, but it's still exhausting.
In my opinion, the 10,000 won is not worth it. I failed to do my due diligence one year and felt like I couldn't demand 20,000 won as per the contract, and I have a very good Korean friend working there and I didn't want to cause any problems over a little bit of money. That's also why I won't name the school here.
So, a friendly warning, ask in advance what the pay is if 10,000 won per hour is too low for you because this school is just starting their search again for English Festival helpers. |

At our "English festival" last year the invited foreigners received 150k won + lunch (each) for their 9am-3pm day with 5 x 40 minute segments.

| Same thing is happening in China. Basically, be wary of any "extra" classes. They will make it look like they are trying to give you more work so you can earn more, but actually they are trying to avoid hiring another teacher. Negotiate more pay or time off. |

I've never been treated so well, but I did receive lunch in addition to the 20,000/hour once.
The man in charge of paying the foreign teachers at this particular school told my co-teacher that foreign teachers are young and don't need to be paid more than 10,000 won per hour  Yup, that's why I came halfway 'cross the world...to be paid minimum wage.
The sad thing is that the school has 2 festivals a year and they always manage to get tons of FT's. |

Yeah, I make sure to not work for less than the standard OT rate (depending on whether it's during or outside of school hours). But so many teachers just don't care and do it anyways, even after being warned.
If we don't set precedent then the bar will keep getting lower and lower. |
