Art, like a greasy MMA thug trying to rip the arm of Michelangelo's God/Brain? Lawls

Well, it is an oil. Considering the size of the canvas, perhaps the seller may just be hoping to recoup the cost of the paints.

Hey, that's not just any greasy MMA thug. That's Fedor Emelianenko, a greasy MMA god.

So...any takers? Some say that market determines value. If it doesn't sell for $5500, then the folks saying it isn't worth $5500 are right, aren't they?

You may feel we're being nasty. Could be true.

You may feel that we're ignorant about art. Could be true, though I'm pretty sure that in a number of cases, it isn't.

You seem to say "He's famous in Vancouver, so like, he's gotta be good and you folks are all ignorant!" This is tactless and facile at best.

There are a lot of famous paintings and painters that some pretty well-informed art enthusiasts don't happen to like. I like art because it says something to me, or because I appreciate how well it's executed, or...whatever. I like it because I like it. Not because an artist is famous or successful. (Not that "famous in Vancouver" means "famous and successful" in any case.)

I imagine Steve, who paints, would share my view that a work isn't good or bad just because it's successful or not. How successful was Van Gogh while he was alive? Mark Kostabi? Does that mean Kostabi is better?

Anyway, since you dropped his name, and I hadn't heard of him, I looked around for Steve Stanczyk, and was suprised to learn that I rather like some of his stuff.

The one you're advertising really doesn't appeal to me. "Doesn't appeal" is in this case a polite way of saying that I wouldn't give it wall space if you gave it to me.

You may feel that we shouldn't offer our opinions here, but you made it sort of...tempting.

It's a painting unlikely to appeal to EFL teachers, who are often sort of transient. And it's great big, as well as expensive.

You put it on a Korea board, though as far as I can tell, the painting is not in Korea. If I wanted to buy it, would you ship? If I needed a mural for a school in Seoul, there are artists here, you know.

And this is the buy/sell/trade area in a discussion forum. If you don't care for discussion, I'd recommend craigslist.

Anyway, good luck with your painting. Not my cup of tea, but I was curious about it- if anyone else would like to know a bit of the "story behind," you can read about it here: http://www.stevestanczyk.com/news.html (Scroll down the page, there's an article about it and the center it was painted for.)

Best,
Justin

It just might not be the market. I have 500 hits on the site right now and seeing what happens.

Somethings happen fast others take time. Steve has sold some of his paintings for 10 to 12 grand so it depends on if people catch the vision.

Art is a work in time. All in good time.

That's a truly awful painting. On every level. I don't see any artistic merit in that what so ever.

It's so bad it looks like a paint-by-numbers.

The fact that people STILL believe that the OP has any part of this painting's sale makes me feel less surprised in other instances when 10 posters get scammed by the same guy selling a computer.

He's trolling and just about everyone fell for it.

OP, tell your good friend "Steve S" to lower the price to $500 and promise to ship to Korea. He'll get a few wire transfers.

Those that proclaim to have a deeper understanding of art, often find themselves not understanding art.

It's by Steve Stancyzyk, but listed by Andrew Lauman. He says "we are moving... please contact me or Steve".

So are these guys LEGALLY married, or is it more of an informal fling? FiveEagles, the people need to know.
