|
|
| So it looks like my recruiter has a job offer for me in Incheon. Has anyone lived in the area? If so, how was it? Upbeat? Lots of stuff to do and see in your off time? |

| I've only been to Incheon a few times but it's huge and has a lot of stuff. It's the main place that I would want to live in Korea. I'd give anything for a job in Incheon. |

"Incheon and I think Ilsan too are basically cheaper places to live in compared to Gangnam. They aren't as busy (I only went to Ilsan a couple times though), but Ilsan is a bit too far north I think. Incheon is a nice location because it is just outside Seoul and near the airport. I lived there for about 5-6 months. You can get easy access into Seoul, but there isn't much of a foreigner community like you will see in Itaewon or Suwon at a smaller scale. I would rate it 8 out of 10. If you feel you have a good first job offer there, I suggest taking it. Get out a subway map and check the time from your station to Seoul (Itaewon station, if that is where you want to go to meet other foreigners). If you don't care about going into Seoul every weekend, then anywhere in Incheon should be fine."

Okay cool. Yea, I guess my location would be very close to subway line #1 into Seoul. Well I'm glad to hear that it's a lively spot to be in. While I am going over there to work, I'm also hoping to experience a lot of cool things in my time off.
Kind of a bummer that there isn't a decent population of foreigners, but I'll make do. This will be my first year overseas for any that were wondering. So I'm really trying to make sure I find a good fit. I'd like this to be the best all around experience possible.
Would it be considered rude to request a current foreign teacher's e-mail to speak with them about their experience before taking a job? I'm not sure if there is a cultural stigma with that or not, but in the US it's pretty typical to learn about a company/work environment before accepting a job. What are your thoughts on this? |

I think that you should definitely request the email or phone number of a current foreign teacher at the school. I always have, and there's never been a problem with it.
As for Incheon, I like it. I lived there for my first year, and I live there again now, even though I work in Seoul. There are a couple of bars where other foreigners hang out, and they can be fun. I think you'll like living there. |

| Incheon is not a bad place to live. Seoul is easily accessible, and the prices for food and goods tend to be cheaper. There are plenty of good restaurants, and some nice parks all around Incheon. Overall, there are few drawbacks to living in that city. |

| I lived there for three years, I enjoyed it, but I'm happy to be in Seoul. Everything in Incheon is basically a pale imitation of Seoul. But it's not too bad. |

There is a decenmt population of foreigners, but they are concentrated arosund 2 key areas; Bupyeong and Guwol-dong. Outside of these two areas there isn't a whole lot! Been living here for 2 years, so if you have any questions feel free to email me here |

Incheon is E-normous
If you are near the airport,
Near Songdo (the new city isn't done)
Bupyeong, Seo-gu Wondang
be sure you are near the line 1 subway and not the Incheon subway |

Incheon people act like country hicks. I see a lot more puke puddles, people pissing in sewer grates, and general rudeness than I see in Seoul or other cities.
Incheon is the 3rd most populated city in Korea. Its location is good but only to get out of it.
계산 is a decent area. But I can't truthfully say I want to live in Incheon. |

| That's weird because I have never seen that in Incheon, but in Seoul I did see some drunk guy out on a street without clothes sitting near a crosswalk pleasuring himself. |

I have seen a guy buck-naked 10 metres away from a police station. I also see temporary homeless peope in Bupyeong in the morning.
The first time I ever saw someone asleep on the sidewalk was in Bucheon.

and Incheon is great for people still not sure if they'll like living in Korea.... with the airport a stone's throw away, you can even do the Midnight run sometime around brunch. |
