Student (speaking in regard to another student): "I don't like him, because he... he... (checks English book) a series of sharp rejoinders!"
Made my day. Anyone else heard any gems out there? |

| Teaching, "come over here," results in a, "Come on baby!" Not just in one class, but if you teach 4 classes the, "Yogiyo," in English you'll get this response exactly 4 times. |

Me: "OK, today we are going to do something that..."
Four or five fifth grade wiseguys: "Sohm-ting. huhuhuhuhu."
Apparently "sohm-ting" is konglish for having a relationship. Another English word that I have to avoid thanks to konglishee.
I got irritated at it one day so I said "something" about six times in a row to see if the laughter would abate. It did not. I moved on, but I don't think they have. |

Question for "level test": You're the hotel manager and the guest calls to say the shower is out of order. What will you say to him?
8th Grade girl: Wait a minute. I'll come up and do whatever you want. |

Talking of diet and fitness with university students, we were discussing our personal exercise routines. When I told a student about my gym routine his response was:
"You will become a cheesecake."
I hope he meant "beefcake" but that seems off too as I'm a 40 year old woman. |

OT: It'd be interesting to know what you cover in those diet and fitness lectures.
On Topic: While doing the same thing as D&C during November 2008, I heard way too often about how excited people were for my elections...add the accent and...well... you get it. childish but funny.

Great ones happen all the time... can't remember any other than a fairly recent one,
One kid to another - You are going insane
Other kid in a very hollywood-esque dramatic yell - 'It's not me it's you!'
...Had to be there. |

I once had an adult student tell me he wanted to work in the National Erections Office. I said: "Er, don't you mean the National Elections Office?" Yes, the National Erections Office."
Another beauty:
Once in a business English class we got around to talking about eating dogs for 'stamina' etc. I told them that Westerners don't really go for that, but they use Cialis or Viagra. The President of the company jumped up and starting saying loudly: "I need Viagra. I need Viagra." (Teacher slides under desk in embarrassment).
All good fun. |

Talking about the future with the phrase, "I'm planning to"...
Low level 3rd grade middle school class. NOBODY gets it except for one kid who says, "I'm planning to have 11 sons."
"Why?"
"I start a baseball team!"
"Ok, you'd better get married soon..." |
