Anyone been there recently? I remember going there in the mid-90s when I first came to Seoul, and it was pretty happenin' (and friggin' pricey). The last time I was there was five years ago and the quality of the crowd had definitely changed for the worse (and the prices were still crazy).

One person told me that the young people who hung out at that overpriced bar in the 1990s kept hanging out there throughout the years, thus the crowd got older.

Aussie house DJ Scott Pullen had a couple of parties there on Fri/Sat last weekend and the place was packed with ripe young thangs. It's hard to justify 30,000 for a long island ice tea, but there is definitely a fair share of hotties populating the crowd. Plenty of cougars and silverbacks as well, though.

Haven't been there since 95. How have you been?

JJ Mahoney's, the bar in the Hyatt? It's chock full of pro and semi-pro ladies, but they charge 300,000-400,000 won which is about 500% more expensive than places outside of Itaewon. Kudos to the dorky white guys for refusing to pay it. Laughing

I once was there with a buddy of mine not too long ago. All paid for on his business trip account. We both agreed that if it had been our own cash a night in a soju tent would have been a way better way to catch up.

But he had one of his dongsaeng boys with his girl there, so he had to impress to take them out so the girl would be impressed with his bro...

I went there a few years ago with my girlfriend. Fifteen thousand won for a bottle of Heineken was a bit ridiculous, but it's a nice bar with a great of the city. The girls there were pretty, so it's no surprise the dorky white guys (probably English teachers) trying to pick them up managed to score nothing. I could literally walk there from my place in a matter of minutes or easily take the bus, but I haven't been there since.

The prices are horrible but then again, a lot of the people are, too. Every time I went there, a bunch of pretentious posers abounded plus quite a few slimy expats on expense accounts.

I will say, however, that the marketing of that bar is top class since JJ's is still packed after all these years.

pro and semi pro ladies?! How do they operate? I'd be a mite grumpy if the girl I'd been chatting up all night suddenly said she cost 300,000won!

The one and only time I went to JJ Mahoney's I paid a 50,000 cover for some sort of christmas themed party. DJ in one room, and a good dance band in the other. It was an excellent night, one of the best I've had in Korea, but it probably helped that I'd drunk a load of soju beforehand and had no need of 15,000 won Heinekens.

This was way back in the day, but I once saw this hotter-than-hot Korean woman at JJ's. She was hit on all night by just about every guy in the joint but refused them all. Then as I was leaving for the night, she walked hand-in-hand with an elderly gentleman (I'm thinking he was Japanese) who could barely walk up the elevator. Rolling Eyes
