Now mosley,
THAT was substantiated. You see...that was very easy...you did it all by yourself too little man...you deserve a gold star.
You gave a valid example and compared Korea with Japan based on it.
Well done.
The body contact in Japan does seem to be less frequent then it is in some areas of Korea.
That could be seen as a "lack" for Korea by some.
By the way mosley...its not aplogogizing mate, its a bad habit of mine of trying to see things from many angles and to avoid unsubstantiated statements.
Example: Mosley...your an idiot.
Now thats a statement but it lacks any support. Hanging there by itself its just your basic insult without any kind of substance.
Therefore it can easily be refuted or ignored.
If you add a comparitive element however it could become a more valid statement.
Good day my friend. |

1. Where did you get those pics?? Uh, that stuff is so a few years ago. Nobody is doing that crap anymore. At least in Tokyo. EVEN JAPANESE TEENS LAUGH AT THAT DARK TANNED KO-GYARUH LOOK. Uh, 2001 calle,d they want their photos back, dude.
2. That's the exact reason WHY I MOVED FROM NIHON TO KOREA. I was tired of garbage like that. Yup, at first I loved such thing,s but it got older and older and older and less and less and less classy, until I had to flee the country to try to get at least a tiny portion of my sanity back. |

I'm seriously beginning to consider japan next year as a teaching destination...I need some sanity, rationality, order, warmth, interesting conversation in my private and teaching life. I need to not be irritated and annoyed by stupidity on a daily basis.
Judging by my 3 passing visa stops in japan, it looks like the Japanese have at least a hint of that glimmer in their eye, that says there's somebody home... |

Thats the fad in the west now(so in Japan probably yes as well). My 19y.o. brother does this and I ask him if showing of his boxers makes him cool. He seesm to think so. |

You're(note the spelling, little man) an apologist. Moreover, you're one that can't respond to a substantiated example without resorting to gr. 8 type insults to anyone that disagrees w/you.
Imagine Homer in India c.1750: "the thuggees and widow burning are just part of the local culture-how dare the Brits would object and seek to stamp out these local practices!'' |

Where in China are you? Xinjiang?
Shanghai girls are some of the most fashionable in Asia. They easily OWN Korean girls in terms of fashion.
Hell, most Mongols are more fashionable than Koreans... |

Mosley...its too bad you feel this way.
Wait a second..no its not....who cares.
You have your opinions....I have mine.
You like to tag people with labels (me in this case). Thats your choice man.
I do respond with examples and rarely resort to grade 8 insults...unless I was insulted first...you would know that if you paid attention. |

| "Apologist" is not an unsubstantiated "insult"-it comes from dozens of posts that you've made...it has validity. You're saying it ranks up there w/"little man" or "idiot"(are you Homer or Bart?)? Has it occurred to you that more than a few posters have commented on your knee-jerk reactions to anything critical of Korea or Koreans? Have you thought that there might be a REASON for those comments? For the record, I LIKE some aspects of Korea & our hosts & benefactors- I just won't buy into the cultural relativist line at all times & costs. And a good day to you too, sir.... |

If you read correctly mosley...you would have seens that the term "idiot" was not used as a direct insult to you but as an example of what an unsubstantiated statement could be.
It was not to be taken litteraly.
as for the little man comment (or was it little dude) I am sorry you took that as an insult as it was not meant to be one.
As for knee jerk reactions...I don't have them on discussion boards.
I react to whats written after thinking about it. Hence there is a pause...this eliminates the possibility of a knee jerk reaction.
If we are going "on record" my man then it should be made clear (I have made it clear on numerous occasions) that I do not like every aspect of Korea. I have never said so or even implied such a thing in my posts.
What I do is try and look at things from different angles and put things in perspective.
Its not cultural relativism...its trying to understand where certain behaviors come from and to put them in their proper perspective.
A knee jerk reaction would be to post on this forum right after being spit on by a Korean grandfather and write that "all korean are pigs".
This happens all too frequently here.
When I respond to these posts it is simply to say that the behavior of a few people cannot be attributed to the entire population of a country.
It is also very revealing that many of those who puke on Korea on here are quite incapable of accepting that their home countries also have flaws.
They would also be quite insulted if someone said something like "all (insert the nationality of their home country) are (insert insulting term)" but yet use such blanket statements liberally about Korea and Koreans.
Thats what I respond to Mosley.
I have my bad days here like everyone else.
I dislike a few things about how things are done here too.
However, if an old lady stares at me in the park I will not conclude that she is retarded or that all Koreans are retarded. Rather I try to understand where that behavior comes from and usually it leads to better understanding on my part.
It also leads to a happier life (for me anyway) as I do not overly focus on things that i can't change or that are out of my control.
I have my limits and if someone crosses them I let them know and fix the problem.
I do hope this clears things up Mosley.
If not feel free to continue tagging me as an apologist to hearts content. It does not mean very much to me. |

It's near impossible to concentrate, trust me. At the uni. where I teach we've loads of J-girls that come over in droves, and some 'prance' about in those little numbers...and add the 'I'm overseas and can experiment!' mentality....recipe for disaster.
Repeat mantra...I'm married, I'm married, I'm married...
Shoosh!

| Fair enough. Since we're going on "the record", I'd be the last person to say my home country is a utopia-it ain't. But humans DO make comparisons about societies, individuals and things. Following that, we(often) overgeneralize when we make preferences. And the fact is, South Korea does not fare well, regarding the behavior of MANY of its citizens, when compared w/its neighbors(e.g. Japan). At least, that is the judgment rendered by a great many non-Koreans. There's a reason Korea has its own forum here at Dave's. Cheers. |
