I want to get an idea about some different places in Korea.
Could anybody mention the pros and cons of their experiences skiing here. |

went boarding at muju last saturday, it got really crowded around noon (45 minute lift wait at the base) but that was mostly on the beginner slopes. there weren't too many people on the upper half of the hill but it was windy and a lot of the powder was gone from the slopes, even though it snowed all day. some sections of the runs were just ice. |

Well, you don't necessarily need great snow for to host the Winter Olympics, have you ever been to Calgary.
However, after visiting Phoenix Park and Vivaldi I do concur that the pistes in Korea are pretty poor. |

I must agree. After visiting Korea this past winter, I realized the snow is sub par compared to most other top ski destinations. Japan on the other hand was pretty good.

Agree with everything here. 2 winter ago I went skiing in Korea and it absolutely sucked. Last winter I went to Japan and it was much like what you'd get in the Rockies...lots of snow, big mountains. It was a lot of fun.
I love skiing, but it isn't worth it in Korea. I end up just being depressed at how bad it is here.
Also...Koreans ski like they drive. |

Best Ski Resort I've found is Hi1 (Hi One) in Taebaek.
You can take the train from Cheongyanggi Stn in Seoul to Taebaek Stn, It's about a four hour trip.
The resort has rental skis, parkas, and other equipment if you don't have any of your own. It's 50K for a day pass, 40K if you pay with a credit card.
I'm looking into getting a season pass next winter if I recontract in August. |

I couldn't agree more! Taebaek is an amazing ski location
Although the class of the resort doesn't compare to a Las Vegas Luxury Hotel, it is a great place to vacation and a reasonable price to pay for an amazing experience.
It seems strange to me that Korea wouldn't have better ski locations. I do still want to go there however, what month did you visit? |

That is very true, it all depends on the conditions. No matter how great the hotel is, it can't be much fun skiing without snow!

Yeah, they're not the best resorts, especially if you're a good skier. But you can still have a good time.
I've never been to Hi-one but it gets good reviews, but it's a long way to get there. Phoenix Park (had a season pass last year) is pretty good and convenient. Yongpyong is the biggest in Korea (I think) but has been a bit icy the couple of times I've been there.
Muju sucks. Don't bother unless you can't get to Gangwon-do or are a beginner.
If you can go on a weekday, you'll enjoy it wherever you are. Weekends get crazy busy though. |

High One is the biggest. I will never go back to Yongpyeong, their snow conditions and grooming sucks. Lots of ice, and of course it is unmarked. |
