Alas, I wasn't able to sign a new contract before my E2 visa expired and transfer it. So I must apply for the issuance of a new visa and consequently another CRC report through the RCMP. An Immigration officer advised me to apply through the federal police agency only. I'd like to do everything without leaving Korea, but an on-line application with the RCMP takes up to 120 days. Are there any Canadians out there who know how long the application process takes when applying in person at an RCMP station in Canada, Vancouver or Toronto? Thanks. |

One phrase:
Winnipeg police service.
http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/BPR/info_request.stm#crim_record_search
Takes about a month or less.
Same validity as the RCMP (CPIC check).
VSS is available (although it is no longer required for Korea).
You can get it "certified" by doing the affidavit of authenticity at the Canadian embassy in Seoul and
the cost is currently CAD$32 and $5 for additional copies if ordered at the same time.

I can't answer your question about the RCMP, but I used https://www.truecheck.ca/. Check with immigration to make sure that it's acceptable, but I ordered their police check online for $20 and my university was happy with it. They send the link to the record directly to your employer. |

They are not acceptable in Korea for immigration purposes AND the embassy won't clear it for use by way of the affidavit.

Are you saying that going through a local metro force is acceptable? I was told by an Immigration counselor this week that I must apply through the RCMP, not that it makes any difference. I applied through the Metro Toronto office last year with what should be the same result. Thanks for your reply. |

It took me 20 min at the RCMP station in Richmond BC (basically any RCMP police station). You need an RCMP statement and not a city police as I found out the hard way, they wont accept city police ie Vancouver police department but its easy enough to just go to a city which uses RCMP. So don't sweat it if you are in Canada, or at least in Vancouver. |

I went to the Ottawa police station and got a CBC (Not VSS) and that was alright for my criminal record check. Ottawa police said that they don't do VSS for work outside of Canada. |

Originally Korean Immigration wanted only the VSS, but not any more. This CRC baloney started (perhaps as a pretext) with that pedophile who was nabbed in Taiwan or Thailand over his child porn site after he taught in Korea. But sexual offenses aren't the only ones KI is concerned about now. Even a DIU can disqualify an E2 visa applicant. |

I went through the Winnipeg police service as well as a Canadian applying from overseas but the Korean consulate in Vancouver wouldn't accept an out of province check. My dad took it to the RCMP station (in Richmond as well) and they traded him for an RCMP check no problem. |

If you are in Korea, why would get get another Canadian CRC? Don't you just get a Korean CRC? What did immigration say? |

Mailed my form and photocopies of IDs to Winnipeg from Toronto about 3 weeks ago, through regular mail. Is there a way to check if they have received my request? Or do I just wait it out a couple more weeks
to see if it arrives?
To any other Torontonians: Roughly how long did it take to get it? |

Unfortunately, if one is in Korea on an extended period of sojourn as an E2 visa holder and has to reapply for a new visa, the CRC report is mandatory. (I fail to see the logic. Koreans spend half their lives in school only to lack common sense.) The Korean CRC applies for E2 visa transfers (only during the original period of sojourn) upon the request of the employer (i.e. GEPIK), not Immigration. |
