Hey guys.

Going shopping this weekend for some decent laptop speakers, please can anyone recommend something of high quality that is available to purchase here. The highest priced ones in homeplus were Blitz or Blitzen, cant remember but I was tempted to get those.yay or nay?

I believe you're thinking about Britz?

A basic, cheap laptop speaker set up is around 50,000. One 'sub' and two other speakers. They pump out reasonable sound for movies and music for a room.

Sometimes, when volume is low on a movie, you could be wishing that they were a bit more powerful but 95% of the time they are just fine.

I agree with this.

Back home I have a set of Logitech PC speakers. They have a sub and two front speakers, they are ace. It comes in a surround sound iteration, but I don't think they would really be that much of an improvement at that price point.

The only down side to these is the speaking sounds slightly muddy in talky style movies. They crush Ironman or whatever Hollywood blockbuster ur into.

In Korea I have those Britz book shelf speakers, and to be frank, they are poop.

Think about how much you are going to use them. Will you be playing a lot of music and watching lots of movies? If so, I would be tempted to get a cheap Hifi amplifier and bookshelf speakers.

I lived here for 3 years with a pair of Britz speakers that cost about 20,000 but finally made the plunge into proper Hifi. Never looked back.

Whilst my set-up cost about 2 million, you can get yourself a decent Marantz amp with some Wharfedale speakers for about 500,000. It's a lot of money but if you're going to be using it a lot, it's worth every penny.

To add a bit more:

My original laptop speakers were just a basic Britz 2 speaker setup. (20,000won) They were good but no bass sucks for listening to music and even for movies. Eventually, I upgraded to two small speakers and a small sub which gave the sound a lot more grunt.

It's worth forking over the extra 30,000 won for the sub; the sound is much more powerful and rich. I bought LogiTech but I'm sure that any of the Britz models would be good too.

This is what i have: http://www.gizmomart.com.au/images/980-000059.jpg

If you are talking about the shiny black ones that come in the green and white box, then we are on the same page.

I think these are the newer version of my ones. They really are quite good for the price.

Thanks for the input.
Yes, Britz not Blitz sorry Smile My colleague says his Britz sub is barely audible and has no volume control? hmm..
I had some Logitech speakers back home and they were fine, so if I can find the same ones here it would be good. It will be for movies and I listen to a lot of music and so of course at lowish volume you want everything to come through nice and crisp with decent bass.

I don't think my neighbours would approve of the Marantz set up, but I'm very tempted!

Back home I had some Klipsch speakers. Boy do I miss those...

I'm looking for a decent set of 2.0 speakers for my computer myself. I think having a subwoofer would just encourage my neighbors to be louder than they already are.

The pic you see that I posted of my logitechs have a volume control and I feel the bass is good enough. These speakers are easily available here; perhaps thats your best bet?

Bono Bass is cheap and cheerful. I have a 2.1 system on my PC that I haven't reached the top end on. I think they were about 40,000

For the money, Logitech make the best damn PC speakers out there. Everything from a basic 2.1 setup to full on 5.1 Dolby Digital THX certified rigs. I have 2 sets of their higher end 5.1 THX sets back in the US and have a small 2.1 setup here in Korea. I will never buy anything else.

I have a set of Britz speakers that are awesome, never even had to use more than half of the volume, and I listen to loud music and movies a lot. The sound quality is excellent. If you pay about 40,000 at Yongsan or Technomart and test them with your mp3 player you should be able find a good model - be sure to test because some are awful and some are great.
