We watch a video on youtube in every one of my classes--morning english pop song--and every computer has XP and IE6, and several of the videos haven't worked because of IE 6. I have the install for English Firefox on my thumb drive, and anytime I have to use any computer I install it. Unfortunately the computers are set up to remove everything after every restart, so I have to reinstall every time.

Now, as some may know, Youtube in IE6 gives a message showing you browser is out of date. It comes up in Korean, here, obviously. I showed my co-teacher, and told her what I knew it meant, and she's like yeah, but I am not good with technology. :/

Once NAVER stops working, then we'll see upgrades.
Ug, IE6 can eat sit and die

A good option is http://portableapps.com/ It has a suite of apps, including firefox, which will boot off the thumb drive. That way you can keep all your bookmarks and extensions and such.

So? XP is a good, stable system. One thing you forgot to mention is that 99% of all new netbooks, laptops, and desktops sold come with W7 pre-installed.

Windows 7 is good compared to Vista and xp but honestly compared with Ubuntu it's really not all that much to write home about. The Ubuntu layout is so much more intuitive to use and looks absolutely stunning compared with windows 7.

Why write this? Typical Linux/Mac head just can't keep from crapping all over a thread with the boring, trite "XXX is better" can-opening ceremony.

Glad you like it. Talk about it in a place where it's relevant.

Win7 is a great OS. As Eamo said, I was also a big fan of Vista - I never was one to shrink away from tweaking anyhow; Vista was made for guys like me).

Bottom line: Win7 is the XP coffin nails.

Still trying to figure out how to get Ubuntu to stop asking for my password after every time my screen goes to sleep.

Its annoying. And something that should be "intuitive" to turn off in the settings.

I don't do a lot of video editing but if I did I probably get a Mac.

Windows 7 and Ubuntu both have great layouts. I was dual booting ubuntu and xp until the ubuntu updates completely wrecked the bootability of that partition too many times for my patience - it looks nice but its just too buggy. Then once I installed Windows 7, I never looked back.

I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu on my computer. Quite honestly I much prefer Ubuntu, I like being able to fully customize everything, and those incessant pop-ups with the programs that came with Windows were driving me nuts.

I did like the media player that came with Windows 7, but overall I prefer the control and options that Ubuntu has.

So I put windows 7 on my computer that is 4 years old & it was starting to mess up. I downloaded a torrent and was going to do a fresh install of a windows 7 that I downloaded, but halfway through the install some file is missing. Now my computer only turns on and says bootmgr is missing and that I must press control alt delete to reboot.

I didn't bring my uncorrupted windows 7 DVD to Korea and I don't want to download a new torrent on my schools computers. I heard that you can buy the bootleg windows copies cheap somewhere...yongsan?

Or if someone lives near bundang and would let me borrow their DVD I'd really appreciate that. I am typing this from my iPod touch.

So if you know where I can get. Bootleg copy please let me know.

Installed Win 7 on my work machine (Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM) and it runs beautifully. I disabled Aero for speed (and because it's ugly compared to my Mac at home). Every piece of software I was using before works perfectly, including Hangul 2007 and CoolMessenger. And IE 8 works fine with most Korean sites (even with those ridiculous ActiveX plugins). AAAAnd, I don't have to deal with those viruses that spread around all the teacher's USB drives every single other computer in my school has.

I think you guys have sold me on windows 7. By chance how would one hypotheticaly get ahold of a copy of windows 7 and install it when their laptop has no cdromdrive and their wallet is adverse to paying windows prices...
