| Interesting but I saw two magazines with Kims picture on the cover in Shanghai this week. One of the magazines was entitled VIctory! Both the U.s. the Chinese play games in the region. Korea is a little nation caught between elephants. I respect Lee's response. It was logical and he did not give into emotions. Chinese control of the North is certainly a possibility in the coming years. There are many ways of fighting a war and the use of surrogates and economic pressures is one way. The only thing preventing a Chinese takeover of the North is Japan they would not like that and Japan is the pitbull that everyone is wary of. |

China has little desire to absorb NK, but they'll prop up NK as long as possible. There is little benefit trying to absorb 22 million Koreans whose ethnic ties are just right across the border, in the 15th largest economy, and having SK, and the US, breathing down their necks demanding a unified Korea. But they will, if they have to, but only temporarily and probably hand it to SK and look like the good guys to the world. The Chinese do like looking in the past, even the ancient past to learn from. And historically China has left Korea to Koreans as long as Koreans knew who was boss.
Also, I think the worry of Koreans pouring into China in the event of a collapse is overdone. If North Koreans had a choice of pouring into China or Seoul, Seoul is where they'll be headed. |

| No one wants a unified Korea except the Koreans. they are pawns in geopolitics. Right about China not wanting to absorb the North. They have enough ethnic tensions. No one wants the U.S. troops to leave either except for a few idiots in South Korea. Korea has the misfortune of being of prime strategic value and is caught in a struggle between China, Japan, Russia and the U.S. When the U..S. withdraws its forces it will be a very short time until China and japan go to war. |
