I'm going back to school in the fall in Canada. I was thinking about trying to do privates or correct papers for foreign students. I was thinking it might be easier for me than others because I have quite a bit of teaching experience and some credentials to offer.

Do you think there is a market for this or are most foreign students already so cash strapped by getting to Canada they couldn't care less?

My company has an office in Vancouver and will be using native teachers for things like that. PM me and I may be able to give more info.

I would rather not work for a private institute.

If it is Korean I don't want a Korean hagwon boss in Canada.
If it is Canadian .... Hmmm.

I was thinking one on one based on campus recruiting or personal relations.

Go to some of the bigger universities and areas where foreigners hangout (korean marget) and hang up some Tutor for hire signs.

GF did that in Australia. She got a few lessons.

But once again where in Canada are you heading. It will likely only work in larger cities like Toronto and Vancouver. Forget about it in places like Halifax and that.

Good Luck.

For two years I did privates in Canada. I made enough money to definitely help pay for my university as well as made some great friends. I did this in a pretty small town, Kelowna BC. I usually taught an avaerage of 20 hours a week. The market IS there. I just put a few posters up. Remember Koreans love referals, if they like you they will recommend you to everybody they know.
