I found out about this programme through a friend (well my friend's friend's husband's co-worker) if you're interested in volunteering.

It sounds like a very noble cause. If I was in Suwon (or if they had a branch in Bucheon), I'd volunteer.

The one thing that I wonder about is from which country is the foreign expatriate who wrote the English language text for their website. If he's a native speaker of English, it would have been good if he'd at least paid attention to the grammar before putting it online. It's not like he's posting a message on an internet forum. They are ENGLISH teachers for crying out loud. It's bad enough when non-native speakers botch up a language on an advert or website, but at least we can understand to some degree why it happens. I presume they're NETs but then again the site doesn't actually say from where these expatriates come or what they are doing here. If they are NETs or at least 1 of them is, I have no idea how they can make so many blatant errors. They aren't even common spoken errors. It's just bad English. In reality, I suspect that the program is run by Korean and that THEY wrote the text but to attract more foreigners decided to avoid saying who runs the program.

He's from India, so I guess he has an excuse. There are 8 native speakers. The Indian man is the head of the programme. The Korans involved don't speak English at all.

Unless they're just getting volunteers by word of mouth, it's probably better if they put text on their page in a more widely used variety of English, or else some potential volunteers are going to suspect that it's a Korean running the program but lying about who's running the program. Even if it was Korean running the program I would have no problems with volunteering, but if I thought that it was someone trying to lie to foreigners (i.e., lying to me), I'd become a bit suspicious (and some people when they're suspicious just wouldn't bother to check it out).


I sent them a message and offered to proof read the website for them. Really though, I don't know why one of the current volunteers didn't already catch the errors and correct them.


Do you volunteer with this organisation? Why do they only work with the one orphanage?
