I've given up trying to find a TV guide in English! What do you all watch and what time is it on? If I have to watch another episode of Gary Unmarried I'll poke my eyes out.

Alternatively what are good streaming sites??

I just download whatever I want to watch. Normally I just watch The Daily Show (you can watch it on the official site), Chuck, Big Bang Theory, Family Guy and Stargate Universe. Unfortunately, all those shows are now finished until the fall:( I find pirate bay and isohunt to be the best place to download shows and movies. I find streaming sites to be a little laggy (not sure if it is my internet or computer). Good luck!

Deadliest Catch seems to be on all the time on the Discovery Channel.

But downloading stuff if just too easy. The English room was on the top floor of the school, and my laptop could pick up an open wireless network. So I would just download stuff to watch after school.

The shows I like include:

V (season 1 ended last week)
Stargate Universe
Fringe
Supernatural (season 5 just finished)
Dexter (mixed feelings about this show)
True blood (3 season is due to begin next month. It's definitely one of my favorite tv shows at the moment)
Breaking bad (I haven't watched any of this season yet but plan on having a BB marathon in the near future)
The daily show

Downloaded seasons of:

Sons of Anarchy 1 (loved it!)
Lie to Me (Tim Roth)
Eureka
Flash Forward
Chuck
Modern Family (loved it!)
The Mentalist
Project Runway (US, UK, Canada)
Dirty Jobs - Mike Rowe (all seasons)

I've given up on TV, in fact, I haven't even turned it on since the Xmas holidays. Stations moving from one place to another, others being removed altogether.... a show on one night, gone the next. Bah!

Not much, most the quality comedies have gone on break.

In terms of the logistics of watching though, as Peppermint said, Surfthechannel.com is great, and sidereel.com is good too, with a bit of a slicker interface but less of a database of links.
A megavideo account is pretty essential if you don't want to spend 5 hours a week watching AFV

30 Rock
The Office
I finished The Wire which was amazing
Mad Men, It's Always Sunny In Philidelphia and Californication are all worth watching.
Eastbound and Down is easily the funniest show I've seen in years, but I'm only on season 1,
Battlestar Galactica is pretty good. The first two Seasons of Rescue Me.

is there any internet site one can watch american shows in live stream as opposed to having to download them?

you know, sorta like mysoju.com, only for american shows. (site should be available for 'this territory')

my harddrive is full and i cant download anything anymore until i get a new one. but i dont wanna wait that long before i get to watch house, the mentalist, fringe and desperate housewives again. ....

Surfthechannel or sidereel combined with a Megavideo account covers that nicely
Even without an account you can still watch up to 72 mins a day which may be enough. There are also movie links to megavideo on Surfthechannel though and you won't be able to get through a whole movie on the free account allowance

I just finished watching Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals through nhl.com on my computer-linked 44" big screen t.v. with uninterrupted, high resolution picture quality I thought impossible through the 'net a couple of years ago.

I gotta recommend Breaking Bad. The first seasons alright, will get you through a few hours you need to kill (season 1 was only 7 episodes due to the writers strike) but season 2 and 3 are unreal. Some of the best writing and acting on television today

You can watch more than 72 mins a day, you just have to wait 54 mins after you get to the 72 mins. Unfortunately, if you don't watch the full 72 minutes (and have it shut you off), it will remember how much you watched for the 24 hours. Then when you try to watch again, it starts you from where you were up to before. So if you watch a one hour show, then do something else for a while (more than 54 mins), then go back to watch a second episode, you'll only get 12 mins before it shuts you off for 54 minutes.

Very frustrating. I keep going back and forward about whether it's worth paying for a membership, but between that and the other sites you find on sidereel, I tend to get by for free.
