Is it possible to use my Shinhan atm card outside of Korea?

Cheers,

Blade.

I wouldn't bank on any account you can open in Korea being an international one even though I heard rumors a KEB card can be used outside of Korea. Carry cash, travelers checks, and cards from home instead. I was smart to buy a bunch of dollars a month ago before the won took a nose dive.

KEB works for sure but my employer insists on using Shinhan for paying my salary. I use internet banking but I really don't like the idea of installing Korean internet banking crapware on my computer.

Today, I heard a rumor from a work colleague that if I visit a particular branch of Shinhan in Seoul(she couldn't tell me which one) it would be possible to get issued an international atm card there.

I think the "Global" Shinhan branch is in the Seoul Finance Center near city hall. Info about it is on their website.

You need to specifically get an international card. You will have to ask for one; because in all likely hood the one you got isn't international. It's not their default card. You may need to go in there and ask for one.

I lost my Shinhan card not too long ago and when I got it replaced they said that the one I had was not for international use and that if I wanted one to use globally I would need a different card.

I went there yesterday and was basically told that unless I take out a shinhan credit card I can forget about using shinhan overseas.
