http://www.ratesfx.com/rates/alarm.html
I just found this today...so I can't verify that it works, but I don't know why it wouldn't...but basically you plug in two currencies and type in what value you want them to reach in relation to each other and then this website will email you to let you know when it happens.
I put in 1150W=$1US...it will surely be a lot easier to be able to not think about the exchange rate and to get an email when the rate drops back to the point where it's worth transferring money home again.
Just thought that other folk might want to try it out as well. |

I use the exchange rate widget for Windows Sidebar. Updates every 5 minutes. All I have to do is glance to the right of my screen. |

Wow...that would be intense. I don't want to think about it THAT often, in fact I know I don't. I'd rather be able to focus on other things but still be sure that I don't miss those often short windows where the rate drops down and you can send a lump sum of won out of the country. |

Nothing you can do about it.

Exactly...which is precisely why it is a good idea to transfer money out of the country at the point in time when it is advantageous to do so. |

Knowing that point in time ahead of time would be really advantageous. And as we all know, things can change suddenly.
Mid May: "Oooh, things are looking hella sweet for my cash. I wonder how long this will last. I'll hold onto it for now."
Early June: "Nards." |

I think that goes without saying...if we knew what would happen with the exchange rate with 100% certainty we'd simply take out a loan for 1 bazillion dollars when the rate was low and then sell when the rate was high and pay the loan back.
I don't really care if people use this exchange rate notifier or not. Personally I think that it's more convenient than checking the rates every day to see where they are at when I only do a transfer every few months or so. |

I keep the currency chart on my website
http://ezcorean.com/ezc_search.php
if you were me, you'd love visiting your own site, and seeing the currency chart, and it looks so cool because it's on your own site! |

you will when you get sick. or you love somebody and they get sick and you can't help them with the medical bills. I'm very sick now, but at least I'm only paying 5% insurance.
in any event, the market is retesting lows from about 2 months (?) back, so if (for example) it continues to drop, and those lows give in, the won is going to lose it's value and if it goes below 1250 to the dollar that's the time to send your dollars over here. now is not the time to be thinking about sending money home, as far as the market goes (you know, stocks go down, won loses value, because the largest force impacting the korean foreign exchang market is foreign money flowing in/out of the country to buy/sell stocks, as the market drops, people pull their money out of the country and the won loses value as it's being sold by the big names). |

If you truly didn't care about money then you wouldn't be living in Korea. |

During my wife and I four years in Korea we saved 95k from our wages and also made 65k in investment income.
I have been home for six monthes and saved less than 10k. Korea was great for money for us and many other people. |
