I usually only go to a casino once a year.
I went the the casino at Walker Hill a couple of times.
I didn't like it because there was no (alcohol) drinking sold nor allowed.
and
The staff there are not that friendly and don't speak English that well.
and
I rarely saw any other foreign teachers there - just mainly gamblers from India and Japan.
Last night after having dinner at a restaurant at Coex I decided to visit the "7-Luck" casino there.
I found it was a much friendlier atmosphere, with very friendly English speaking staff and a variety of gamblers, including many Filipinos, Europeans, Chinese, and many, many foreign English Teachers.
There were free drinks for anyone (apple juice, lychee juice, grape juice, orange juice etc) and they sold alcohol beverages and meals) - also free if you gamble for more than 30 minutes.
I saw foreign teachers winning and losing.
I just walked in with 50,000won and walked out after 2 hours with 120,000won (from the roulette table).
No other foreign teachers were playing roulette - they were all playing card games.
I really enjoyed it and am thinking about going back at least once a week, just to make 50,000 ~ 100,000won profit and have a free meal and drinks.
So I am just interested to know if this is unusual amongst the foreign teacher crowd and if you do go often what games you play.
Also, what casino do you find the nicest, friendliest, etc?
p.s. - I did have a poll option "more than 4 times a month" but it seems to have disappeared??

haha planning to make 50 ~ 100k each time...
i think the house has a 4% advantage at that game. it will catch up. i've experienced the lows 7 luck can bring.. |

that said, i am admittedly a horrible gambler and i have a problem stopping when i am on a roll. up $200 i'll keep going cause i want that good, winning brain chemical to keep me feeling on top of the world
if you have more self control you'll probably never experience the truly bad side of casino gambling |

Roulette is like rolling a 36-sided die and betting which number is going to come up. Would you even think that was a good idea outside of a casino?
The casinos in Korea are terrible. There is no atmosphere. I went into three, and turned around and walked back out of all three. Terrible. |

Once a month (if that) for me. I've been to all 3, but I prefer Walker Hill, and not just because it's on my way in/out of Seoul and easy to get to w/ a car.
The one in COEX feels like someone's illegal home casino in the basement of a dodgy building (even though it's not). The ceiling is too low and the general feeling is a bit too claustrophobic.
The space in the Millenium Hilton is much nicer, but too many GI's for my liking.
Staff at all three places are friendly and very customer-service oriented. However, Walker Hill gets my vote-- very cute Japanese in tour groups frequent the place (which is a plus), and the fact that there AREN'T too many westerners there is a BIG plus for me. And I find the slots to be much looser there than elsewhere, as most players at WH are there for the table games and not slots. |

I DIDN'T put my money on one number and IGNORE the other 35 - I played a "system" for 2 hours and walked out with 70,000 won profit (plus free food/drinks) = 35,000won/hour + free food drinks sitting in nice airconditioned pleasant scenery. (I played 1st/2nd/3rd and columns).
I also had 2 guys - obviously expert gamblers both looked European who were sitting on either side of me and who betting HUGE amounts of money and winning HUGE amounts of money and a few times I watched them and placed just one chip on top of their pile and was paid out 35-1 for winning.
they knew what they were doing, so I just put my money on top of their money and they didn't seem to mind at all.
Hence, why I will go again and next time stay longer.

I guess less foreign teachers and more cute Japanese is a PLUS.
I enjoyed it and plan on going back and doing the same thing again, but this time maybe for 3-4 hours and maybe once a week. |

If it paid more than 36:1, you would be a rich man over a long enough time span.
The casinos only have a small percentage advantage, but thanks to the law of large numbers, they are ALWAYS profitable, barring the occasional deviation by a big spender. |

Hey, he had a system, they looked European, and there was a lot of money involved. What could possibly go wrong?
Forever, if you're having a good time and aren't betting more than you can afford to lose, by all means. Be aware, though, that roulette is one of the highest house edge games there is, and that you can expect to lose every dime you invest in it over the long haul.
Do yourself a favor, and read a bit about the math behind roulette and betting systems, and then decide for yourself whether you or those Europeans knew what you were doing:

I never posted this post to discuss gambling etc etc etc
I just wanted to know how many other foreign teachers were going to the casinos and what games they were playing.
As I said - I ONLY took 50,000won with me (to me thats a small amount of money) and I had a GOOD time, free drinks, free food and walked out with MORE money than I walked in with.
so, the people who wish to tell me how bad roulette is and how much of an "edge" the house has, etc etc etc
I could have easily instead of going there just gone to "Itaewon" or "Hongdae" and bought my drinks etc and spent (wasted) 100,000won for the night and come home with nothing.
I didn't do that - I went out had a great time and came home with more money home I went out with.
so forget trying to give me advice.
once again, I just wanted to know (because I saw many foreign teachers there last night) how many foreign teachers were going to the casino's, what games they were playing and what casinos they preferred.
end of story. |

In fairness, 50,000 won is probably how much most people would spend on a night out, so to have some free meals and drinks thrown in can count as a night out in my book.
Plus, ofcourse you have the prospect of breaking-even or better still going home happy with a little profit. |

No one cares what you do with your money, but when you claim you will play a little here and there to accumulate a profit with a "system"...it says someone either doesn't understand long run statistics or is a problem gambler. |

Just remember, if you know what you're doin', it isn't really gambling, is it? 
Just the practical application of statistical probabilities, or a symptom of an addictive personality.
Now I want to know why no Korean casino owner hasn't seen "Vegas Vacation" and started a 가위바위보 table. I see the next big hit a-brewin'  |
