| Hey guys/gals! Just wanted to get some kind of feedback from anyone who has worked at the Avalon branch near Sungshin Women's University. I already have one year experience working for a hakwon, so I'm not blind to the issues that came arrise from working at one of these places. Any specs on the directors, teachers, work-load, etc that you could give would be great!! thanks. |

my cousin worked there for 1 contract and didn't have any problems. They tried to subtlety rip him off out of his pension but he was pretty agressive about it and they caved in rather quickly.
His schedule was ridiculously easy. He worked 2-10PM but only taught maybe 3 or 4 hours on any given weekday. The rest of the time he studied Korean and worked on his skills for the GRE so he could go to grad school in the fall. I don't think it is a bad branch. |

| Can't help you with the school but I can tell you that's a nice area to live in. |

| nice area huh? do you know anything about housing in that area? would 500,000 Won/month cut it for housing allowance in that area, or would I be safer to go with the furnished housing option in my contract? I"m looking to move there in a few months. it is close to the women's university, so that is most def a plus in any dude's book. |

The real bright spot to the area is the close proximity to Hyehwa, but living around Donam-dong (성신여대입구) means there is no shortage of restaurants, hofs, and girls within walking distance. I spent my first few years in the general area, so I'm very fond of it. The fact that my wife is from around there also means that we go back often and visit some of my favorite old spots, or the ones that are still around.
It used to be that the hagwons in the area housed teachers up in Nowon, but I know that ECC and SLP moved their teachers much closer in the past few years. As always, it would be a good idea to ask your employer where the apartment is. In fact, ask for specifics. Let us know, either via this thread or pm, and I'll see what information I can give you. I'm sure others would be happy to chime in too. No sense worrying about finding your own accomodations unless you know the ones provided are unsatisfactory. |
