|

I've never been to the Philippines, so I'm thinking about heading to Bohol for my winter holidays. I've only got from December 24th to January 2nd, and I plan to fly into Tagbilaran.
I've read that over the Christmas holidays, accommodation and transport in the Philippines can be booked up well in advance. I'm curious if Bohol's affected that much at that time of the year.
I plan to spend a few days diving and then the rest of the time exploring the island, hopefully doing some hiking and maybe some sea kayaking. Ideally, I don't want to have to book everything in advance, as I hate being locked into a rigid schedule.
So, for those of you who know, how busy does it get in Bohol over Christmas? I'm reluctant to book a ticket if it's going to be a zoo for that time period.
I'd also appreciate tips on any cool places or things to do that are worth checking out.
Thanks a lot |

Bohol won't see half the crowd that Boracay will see. Also Bohol has a lot less hotels than Boracay or a place like that. I would definitely book in advance, but I doubt 'zoo' would be the word to describe it. |

My girlfriend spent our last Christmas holiday there, 26-1, and I wouldn't call it a zoo by any means. While a lot of places were booked, there were some people who showed up and could still find a place somewhere. That being said, I'd recommend making a reservation. We stayed here and were very happy with our place; http://www.oopsbar.com.ph/home.php?page=2 , if you want something nicer for a bit more money there are plenty of more standard hotel options.
The one thing you need to remember is that the ferry may not be running on the 1st, at least in the morning, and I would imagine Christmas as well. Since our flight left on the 1st, we had to leave Bohol on the 31st to make our flight. |

It seems pretty cool to have one's queries about Bohol answered by someone with Bohol in their handle. I never knew the significance of the word until now.
Maybe the OP could return the favor if you ever have a question regarding enigmas(and who doesn't?). |

Are there salt water crocodiles swimming around the rivers and beaches in Bohol?
I was in Palawan a few years back and there were crocodiles in the rivers and people from villages who use the rivers are eaten every once in a while.
Is it similar to how dangerous it can be in and around rivers / beaches in some parts of Darwin or Queensland Australia?
Just how safe is it? |

There are NO crocodiles in the waters of Bohol.
to the OP:
Domestic travel on Dec 23/24/25/26 can be BAD and badly overcrowded (ferries / buses / vans).
Book your air tickets well in advance or you will pay dearly for waiting.
You should consider booking a room for at least your 1st two nights on Bohol (longer if you want low end/low cost rooms).
Travel on Bohol is NOT a problem at any time of the year. V-hires (vans), trikes and rental cars /taxis (with driver) are always available. Rates at XMAS run about p3000 per day + meals for the driver. |
