I have exams today. I have the AC on and it's nice in the room. Can anyone explain to me why this always happens? Why do uni students need to be told to close the door 20 times a class?

Do they learn about diffusion, circulation and heat cells in school? It's fairly basic stuff.

Just a rant.

I posted before the solution I dream of using but haven't tried yet. Tell them that leaving the door open creates what's known as "the fan effect" and they will be subject to fan death!

Last person closes the door. Class doesn't start until it's closed. Class also stays late, to make up for lost time. They'll remember the rule.

Same thing in winter when the heat is on.

I used to ask them if they were animals, because animals don't close doors when they come into the room. That worked pretty well.

Why do uni students need to be told any number of basic concepts over and over again?

The answer is...I haven't the foggiest notion, please let me know if you figure it out. Possibly it's because they behave like 12 year olds most of the time and are extraordinarily irresponsible and barely able to take care of themselves....at least they've outgrown the dreaded ddong shim by the time they reach uni....barely.

Perhaps the parents don't teach them.

ie: covering their mouths when they cough or sneeze, carrying scissors properly...

You have got to let go of the anger. Learn to live with the door open or closed.

Closing the door symbolizes being last. Nobody wants to be last.

In other words, common sense, the rarest of commodities in Korea.
It's almost as if someone beat it out of them, oh wait .....never mind.

And if you think it's just younger people, sadly you'd be mistaken. After having taught full classes of adult teachers, I can assure you they were far worse than children, as they actually argued with me to justify their door open - AC using idiocy.

Luckily, I was the oldest person in the room ( but I had to show them my ARC to prove it, and THEN they all bowed down to "Hyung Nim") and was able to take control of moderating the room temperature.

Mine get up without prompting and close the windows when the AC is turned on. I haven't seen any craziness with AC/heat at this job. It's kind of neat.
