I'm wondering if any teacher in Korea is applying for a teaching job in China from here, whether it's possible and what route is to be taken. Also, does one have to submit a CRC report when applying for a work visa in China?  |

I applied for a few jobs in China last year, while I was in Korea.
Yes it's possible! I had some telephone interviews and they said it was fine to go straight from Korea. I ended up going to Thailand instead, but yes it's theoretically possible if that helps.
As for the Z visa... I'm pretty sure you don't need a criminal background check... BUT google is your friend  |

why would you wanna go to china to teach?
i mean i havent taught in any country, but ive lived in china for 1.5 years and just came back from it (vacation).
china is still dirty and smelly. the people are rude and incompetant. ive had long discussions with them only cuz they refused to do their work (and i speak chinese mind me saying).
i wonder how that would have turned out, if i wasnt speaking any.
of course, its your decision to go there. but from what ive heard and read (still get job offers via mail) teaching jobs in china are underpaid and over worked. they used to make 20.000 rmb easily with visa and accomodation paid for. long vacations, too.
now its down to half of that (if at all), help with the visa (which means, you pay for it), and lousy accomodation.
you will need a visa. i think its a z visa and you will need a health check of it, incl. aids test. at least that were the requirements two years ago, if you wanted to get a z visa.
realize that in china, most people dont speak english. it might be a bit better in shanghai than it is in beijing. but the only words you get to hear are 'cheapy', 'my friend', 'dvd', 'lady', 'mr'.
i would assume its quite an adventure at first, but after some time itll get tiring.
im super happy with my choice of having come here. it couldnt be any better. developed country, no ones trying to cheat me out of money only cuz ive got a western face, and prices are reasonable. (not to mention the cleanliness).
after i came back from the 4 days in china (beijing), i can surely say that i will not go back there. when i got back to seoul, i was ready to kiss the ground beneath my feet. |

I planned to go to China to avoid having to return to Canada to obtain a CRC report for the E2 vis application - a costly trip. (An on-line application through the RCMP takes 120 days.) But my recruiter just told me that the CRC is now also required by the Chinese authority. I guess I must return home after all. Judging by your information, I'd prefer to return to Korea to teach by Speptember. Thanks. |

My 2 cents:
It is better to go from Korea to China than say Canada if you want to work in China. The primary reason is in Korea they have quite a few places that do the medical for the Chinese work visa and that is ALL they do. They give you the proper documents to bring to China so once you are here you don't have to do the medical a second time. They are certified by the Chinese government. In your home country it is going to be hard as hell to get the medical done and they don't do it as thoroughly, thus you have to do the medical AGAIN once you come into China and cheaper employers will make you pay for that.
I did not need a CRC to get the visa and there is no requirement for that. However, I DID need to have one for my employer. I work at an international school, so they were very particular about a ton of documentation that your routine ESL hawgwon won't care about.
About money: there are awesome jobs out there, you just have to find them. A buddy was telling me about an ESL job in Tianjin that was paying 20,000 RMB a month + apartment and airfare and the schedule was only 4hrs a day. This was a Chinese public school mind you, not a money hungry academy.
Sorry I cannot help you with recruiters or any of that. I got my job through an international school job fair and that is a whole different ball park.
Going from Korea to China though was a great idea on my part and I hope people can benefit from my advice. |

My 2 cents:
I did not need a CRC to get the visa and there is no requirement for that. However, I DID need to have one for my employer. I work at an international school, so they were very particular about a ton of documentation that your routine ESL hawgwon won't care about.

I got the visa last August. I really think your recruiter is asking for your potential school, not the visa. I could be wrong and they changed the requirements, however, I just had my visa renewed and I wasn't asked to provide a current CRC, so who knows? The China forum on the International Boards would have more up to date information.
I've seen some of the "backpacker" ESL crowd that comes through China and I can't believe the requirements for them to get a visa are all that difficult. Some don't even have university degrees... |

My wife and I have just finished getting our Z visas for China. we're working for an international school not a language school so the requirements might be a little different but we did need a CRC. However we we're lucky because our school took care of that for us. When applying from Korea you will need a medical done as well. This can only been done at certain hospitals so you will need to contact the consulate to find the one nearest you - It will cost 170000 won.
Also you can only submit a Z visa application via a third party (a recognised travel agent) so you will need to find one of them to do that for you. This will likely bump the price of the visa up by 30000ish won as well. |

Either the price of that medical went up, or I got a deal. I believe I paid 120,000 won and I went to a special clinic that ONLY does the medical for Chinese Visas.
Are you sure you needed a CRC for the visa? I had my visa before I gave my school a CRC. I intentionally asked if they needed a CRC for the visa and was told no. I didn't get one before I left Canada for Korea...talk about a pain in the butt when my school said they needed one to ensure I wasn't a criminal...I had to get a relative to get me one and mail it over.
I can tell you, China is VERY different from Korea. Get used to some serious internet censorship and speed limitations. |
