(Sorry if this was posted before, I tried the Search feature, but it's currently wonky)
Has anyone here had a visa interview in San Fran who lived outside of California? I have heard that they sometimes allow you to do the interview over the phone if you are far from their location. I am in Utah which is a 10 hour drive OR a couple hundred dollar flight away from the Korean consulate.
Just wondering if this is a possibility or if I will need to get more time off of work to travel there.

Ask them. Be very polite and respectful and they might say yes. |

I was in your same exact situation a few months back with the same office. Be the initiator in the process: call them when you expect them to receive your application, ask how long you should expect to receive your visa back and always ask if your application is complete. They'll probably be short with you and make you feel as if you're bothering them, but so be it. It ended up to be a smooth easy process for me. I don't know if I technically even had a phone interview, but I for sure didn't have to make a trip to California.
Hope you're itching for a cultural change. Korea resembles very little of anything in Utah. |

TravelinSig that was very helpful. I will be sure to call them. Good to know I won't have to go there, I'd love to see SF but rather save the money for SK. I am not originally from Utah so I didn't grow up in the bubble here (I just love the beauty of SLC). The cultural change will be huge no matter what state you are from, but not as bad for me as some might think.  You are correct in that there are going to be very few similarities between the two except having 4 seasons and a low crime rate. LOL
As for the beer...it's only 3.2 in grocery stores and bar taps. The micro-breweries here serve quality beers much higher like 9%.  |

No problem at all.
Why does everyone talk crap about Utah beer, especially here in Korea? I'll take utah's 3.2 microbrews any day over sHITE or cASS. |

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure all Korean beer is in the 4-4.5% range, other than the vile Cass Red. Funny you should say that, though. I guess some people might appreciate a .5% boost in their beer alcohol content. |
