hi there,

does anybody have any idea where to get products that have low fat/low carbs/ low sugar attributes?

im specifically thinking about yogurt, which either seems to have loads of fat or loads of sugar to compensate for the reduction of fat.
but also other items that i would consume on a daily basis are needed....

Homeplus, Lotte Mart, your neighborhood market... use the internet to see what foods you should get with those criterion and then go to the store and buy it. Yogurt is a common food here

Don't be afraid of saturated fat. It is your friend.

Isn't the food you just described water? There is plenty of it in the tap.

As other posters have said, it's tough. Heck, a lot of places don't even have skim milk. The whole low fat/low sugar bit just hasn't really caught on over here, at least not yet. Even something like "Calorie Balance", which you would think would be at least somewhat healthy, is really nothing more than a cookie.

Just have to check different stores and read the labels. I haven't come across any store that specializes in such products... Maybe there's something in Itaewon?

Hi There,

Find out from your coworkers where the closest outdoor market is and go and get veggies and the least off putting meats you can find there.

Either that or just get veggies and meat at home plus, a little bit of sesame oil or olive for cooking. Mung bean sprouts, fish, tofu?.

Nong hyups have chicken processed a bit less then the homeplus.

Korea is good for organic eggs.

I am not saying it is the easiest way to eat or live here at all. Truth be told you could be severely limited. You may need to get creative.

At least at the homeplus salads you put on the dressing so you can choose oil or whatever. Otherwise a restaurant is likely to put weird dressing on it.

I hope you like Korean chigae and kimchi then...good luck

Homeplus in Ganseok, Incheon has a 2nd floor area where there's organic goodies. I found a yogurt maker and the cultures there for about 40k. You can make the unsweetened stuff. It has fat, but it's way healthier than the crap you find in the fridge section of the grocer's.

Koreans seem pretty skinny (cept for middle school aged kids or younger). Eat what they eat. Usually it doesn't have a label (as in it's homemade).

I'm reminded of one of the food rules...stay away from foods that make health claims, because they probably aren't healthy. Also, to have a health claim, they have to have a package, and if they have a package, they probably aren't healthy.

Try spinach. It's pretty healthy.

Yep, go to Costco and get your fill of all of the meat, cheese, eggs, fish, and shellfish that you could ever want.

Nightshade doesn't have a package, you should eat truckloads of that $^&$ if you want to be healthy!

Eat regularly.
Exercise, with weight resistance training.

Fast intermittently, once or twice a week.

Thank me later.

Low fat/low carb/low sugar?

Do you mean vegetables? They can be found anywhere.

Or perhaps you mean lean cuts of meat? They also can be found anywhere.

Interval training is much more effective, and not as likely to damage your heart as fasting.

I'm very interested in how fasting can damage your heart. Any links appreciated. Also, what constitutes 'fasting'? I haven't eaten lunch for years, eating only an apple. I call this healthy eating - whereas Koreans call it 'fasting'.
